CMC Skagit Powersports Pac West Nationals Round 7: Horn Rapids ORV Park Ryan Huffman was the dominant Pro rider at round seven of the CMC Skagit Powersports Pac West Nationals, winning both 250cc Pro motos as well as the second 125cc Pro moto. as his machine stalled in midair; Huffman eventually finished 11 tho Huffman's misfortune was good news for McCormick, who settled into a race of his own, leaving Carter with a distant second-place finish, his best thus far of the seven rounds. Moore ran a solid third and narrowed the gap on Carter late in the moto to trail the KTM rider but finish ahead of Kawasaki rider Ryan Abrigo, Montana's Cameron Weaver, Oregon's Mike Corder, Jason Thomas, Jason Zuhlke, Ryan Metzler and Huskymounted Wesley Parker, who rounded out the top 10. Huffman had the problem resolved for the start of moto two and grabbed the lead at the unleashing, while McCormick, Parker, Weaver and Thomas filled the top spots as the pack navigated the rough, whoopedout course. Moore, who came into the round as McCormick's closest challenger in the series, got a poor start, as did the second-place finisher in moto one, Carter. Huffman and McCormick spent the entire moto in a wheel-to-wheel duel, but Huffman narrowly eluded McCormick's lastditch pass attempt at the finish. STORV AND PHOTOS BV CLAV liGHT WEST RICHLAND, WA, JULY 13 regon's Ryan Huffman was hotter than the 113-degree heat that hit Horn Rapids ORV Park in eastern Washington, as the 27 -year-old former factory-supported rider was the dominant Pro rider at round seven of the CMC Pac West Nationals. Huffman aced both 250cc Pro motos, although a first-moto DNF in the 125cc Pro class ended what could have been a perfect day for the Yamaha rider. Although Huffman did come back to capture a win in the second 125cc Pro moto, his nemesis, Washington's Jason McCormick, snared the overall class win with a 1-2 punch. McCormick, who had previously dominated rounds three through six, also finished second to Huffman in the 250cc Pro class to snare the lion's share of the Professional purse offered by CMC series coordinator Jannice McAlister. Arizona's Ted Campbell posted an overall win in the first Pro class of the day, the Over 25 class, beating the rider who's dominated the majority of the series in the class, Dan Moore. Campbell overcame a poor start in the first moto to mount a forward charge and overtake Moore midmoto and nab a victory. Despite having possibly broken a finger in the first 250cc Pro moto, Campbell shoved a wheel under Moore at the start of moto two and remained in the lead to the finish to cap off a sweep for the American Suzuki/Fly-backed rider. Moore (2-2) finished second, followed by Travis Gage (3-3). Suzuki Motor Corp./Pro Calibersupported McCormick bolted to the head of the field at the start of the first 125cc Pro moto, followed by KTM rider Garhett Carter and Yamaha YZ250F-mounted Huffman. While McCormick quickly established a large lead by the end of lap one, Huffman's fine ride ended just as quickly, 42 AUGUST 14, 2002' cue I Weaver rode a steady race for third, which, with his first-moto fifth, was good for second overall. Corder finished fourth, ahead of Thomas. Moore (3-6) netted third overall, followed by Corder (6-4) and Huffman (11-1). Huffman's best performances came in the 250cc Pro class, as McCormick had to really work hard in order to finish second to the rider from Roseburg, Oregon, in moto one. Huffman stayed out front for much of the race (though Moore did take command briefly) and finished there, while McCormick eventually got around Moore to finish second. Abrigo was again impressive and finished a strong fourth, trailed by Carter, Thomas, Corder, Arizona's Bryan Clevenger, Gerald Knifong and Parker. McCormick and Huffman shared holeshot honors at the start of moto two, but then Huffman outjumped McCormick early on lap one to take command. While McCormick stayed within striking range of Huffman, he had a large pack of riders to deal with, as Thomas, Abrigo and Moore were all looking to find a way past. Washougal MX Park/No Fear-backed Huffman enjoyed a large lead to the finish to cap off his 1-1 sweep, while McCormick nursed his ailing RM to finish second and second overall. Abrigo nabbed Moore late in the moto to finish third - his series best - and garner third overall on a 4-3 score, ahead of Moore (3-4) and Honda CRF450R-mounted Thomas (6-5). There were several other brilliant performers on the day, including Washington's Ryan Villopoto, winner of the 85cc (12-13) and Supermini classes, and Idaho's Cole Siebler, who won the 125cc Intermediate class with a 1-1 tally, but a fall while leading the first 250cc Intermediate moto ended his shot at a perfect day; Arizona's Ted Campbell (75) made the trek to West Richland, Washington, and topped both Over 25 Pro motos. e ne"". KTM rider Tony Boughten won the Before The Hill Junior class and also finished third in the 125cc Junior class at Hom Rapids ORV Park. he went 5-1 for second overall, behind Justin Lizotte, who was also among the two-class winners on the day, posting a 1-1 tally to top the Over 25 Intermediate class. eN Ham Rapids ORV Park West Richland, Washington Results: July 13, 2002 [Round 71 P/W (4-6): 1.
