it looked like Bast would ride his textbook inside-lane start to a win on the well-used, dry track, but as Bast negotiated the all-important first set of turns, Bobby seemed to come from nowhere. seemingly on a thin set of invisible traction rails that propelled him into the front position as the pack made its way down the back straight. Once Bobby established himself at the front of the freight train, it came down to whether or not he would make a mistake and give the lead back to Bast, who remained a close second throughout the event. The Blaze did not falter and had his second Scratch main win of the season, and his first since opening night. Bast stayed right in Hedden's hip pocket the entire way and took home the secondplace points. Brant also stayed close to the leaders and claimed third, a fair distance ahead of Felicio, who struggled to a fourthplace finish. ~ Sunday, September 1 1 PM Results SCR: 1. Bobby Hedden (Jaw); 2. JULV 13 "Fast Andy" Fortner had a perfect night at the Pleasure Riders hillclimb on July 13, winning all three of the classes he entered and also claiming the Fast Time award. His first win and fast time came in the very large and com· petitive 600cc class; where he flew his CR500 over the top of the 150-foot hill in a sizzling 4.047 seconds on his first ride. The time would not be beaten for the rest of the night. giving him both the class win and the coveted Fast Time award. Young gun Jared McKay was his closest challenger. as the 16-year-old from Neoga posted a fine 4.142 seconds on his KX500 for second; while yet another young gun, 15year-old Jacob Tackitt, rode Gayle Jenkin's Honda to a third-place finish in 4.168 seconds - only two·thousandths of a second quicker than Scott Petty and his 4.170-second fourthplace ride on his Honda. Fortner's second win came on his wHon· dasaki" triple in the 750cc class, where his 4.201·second time was a winner, with Greg Rankin and Josh Brown running second and third on their Yamaha twins. Fast Andy completed his clean sweep on a Honda CR450 borrowed from Gayle Jenkins. riding the thumper to the win in the Open Stock class with a 4.384-second first-round ride. No one in the class could match it in either round, with Tom Brown coming the closest with a 4.586-second run on his CR500. Matt Peters enjoyed a double-win evening. taking both the 250cc- and 450cc-c1ass wins. Riding a CR250, Peters had to come from behind to take the 250cc-c1ass win, as Kevin Cappello set a first-round class-leading time of 4.480 seconds on his YZ250. In the second round, however, Peters, the defending points champion from 200 I, asserted himself with a fine 4.364-second. high-flying ride for the win. _ Kevin Ryan was close to Peters with a 4.382· second run on his KX250, and Mark Schroeder slipped his stock-length YZ250 into the third spot with a 4.408-second run. Peters' win in the 400cc class came a little easier, as his first-round 4.361·second time on his KTM 380 held up for the win. Butch Fetters. riding Peters' YZ400F thumper; claimed second, Randy "Buzz" Green was also a double winner, riding his Harley to wins in both the Open and Pushrod classes, with Steve Sharer and his Harley running second in both.
