Midway Recreation Park Dallman Plays to Win at Midway MX By GEORGE AND KAREN HODKINSON KELLOGG, MN, JUNE 30 Dan Dallman was the winner in the 16-24 C class at Midway Recreation Park, finishing with a 2-1 moto score for the overall victory, beating out Craig Larson (1-4). Larson however, would get the overali in the 125cc C Division Two class, in which the two went head to head again, with Larson's 1-2 taliy beating Dallman's 2-1 score. Just over 500 entrants showed up for the event, making for a good showing of riders even though there were two other District 23 points-paying events going on the same day. The 16-24 C class usualiy features pienty of lead changes, and this day was no different. In the first moto, Torrey McNalien grabbed the hoieshot and led lap one, with Jesse Anderson, Larson, Ed Kruger and Dallman in tow. Larson and Daliman sliced through the field as the others feli back or did not finish. Larson took the win at the end of the four-lap race, with Dallman second, Anderson third, Steve Tiegs fourth and Mike Crotty fifth in the 25-rider field. in moto two, Cody Schwarz grabbed the holeshot. Daliman, however, was in the lead by the end of the first lap, with Travis Gibson second, Anderson third and Schwarz fifth. Dallman went on to take the moto win despite some heavy pressure from Gibson, who would finish second after piacing ninth in the first moto. Third went to Tiegs, with Larson moving into fourth by the end. Jake Tolzman finished fifth after placing 16th in moto one. The 65cc 10-11 class featured consistent mote and overall finishes. Alex Ettesvold took both moto holeshots and both moto wins with little challenge. Dustin Carlson went 2-2 for second, over Kody Klementson. who went 3-3 for third, Dustin Overby, who went 4-4 for fourth, and Dylan Larson, who went 5-5 for fifth. Rosenbaum by a Hair at SRA GP By DAVE DAIN CARLSBAD, CA, JUNE 30 The Carlsbad race marked the midway point of the Southland Racing Association's Gran Prix Series. The Carlsbad track - which features a variety of different terrain, including a couple of asphalt sections - tests a rider's ability. George Rosenbaum proved to be the most versatile rider on the track as he captured the overall victory in the Over 30 Novice division. The dry, dusty upper section just off the starting line put a huge emphasis on getting the holeshot. Rosenbaum was able to get his Yamaha thumper hooked up quickiy and left the field to wallow in the dust. Chris Chamber, John Mutscheller and Kris Martin rounded out the top four. Ryan Fetzer, 5. Jesse Wentland. AUGUST 7, 2002' eye • Rosenbaum continued to iead the pack as they filed through dusty single-track and off to the motocross portion of the track. Rosenbaum maintained his lead as he thundered down the drag strip. Mutscheller and Chamber swapped positions in second and third, while Martin maintained his fourth-place position. Rex Roberson and Mike Ignaciak came from midpack starts to battle for the fifth position. Ignaciak got around Roberson as the duo dropped into the trees. The top five remained the same as the pack race toward the motocross track. Rosenbaum once again thundered down the drag strip with a iead that had stretched to 15 seconds. Mutscheller remained in second. Roberson moved up several positions to claim third. Scott Fraser and Dan Dilkey came from outside the top five to capture fourth and fifth, respectively. Dilkey quickiy moved around Fraser into fourth as the two riders charged up through the fieid. With the race past the midway point, Rosenbaum maintained his margin over the field. Mutscheller was in second but under heavy pressure from a charging Dilkey, who then moved around Mutscheller to claim second and then started to close the gap to Rosenbaum, in the lead. With the white flag set to come out, Dilkey had haived the margin that Rosenbaum had been enjoying. Dilkey continued to cut into Rosenbaum's lead as the two riders came off the drag strip; Dilkey was now within three seconds of Rosenbaum. With two tums left to go, Dilkey moved to within a bikelength of Rosenbaum, but Rosenbaum held the inside line to the checkers to claim the victory. Dilkey crossed the checkers a tenth of a second behind Rosenbaum for second. Mutscheller and Fraser aiso battled to the end, with Mutscheller holding on to third and Fraser taking fourth. Castro Still Own Arrowhead By ELAINE JONES SAN BERNARDINO, CA, JULY 3 Scott Brant and "Fast" Ed Castro continue to make their marks on Arrowhead Speedway. Brant logged another win in the Scratch main, and Castro won yet another Handicap main, in front of a standing-room-only crowd. Reno riders Chris "The Kid" Manchester and "Flyin'" Mike Faria and several Northem California riders attended. Ryan Fisher's night was shortlived, as he got up close and personal with Brant in a heat race and both ended up through the wall and on the ground. Brant was able to continue, but Fisher's bike looked like a pretzel. The first Scratch semi had Brant on ttv' pole, with "Gorgeous" Gary Hicks in two, Randy "The Rocket" DiFrancesco in three and Castro in four. The gate went to Brant; then Castro tangled with Hicks and the race was red-flagged and called: Brant and Hicks were headed to the main, with Castro and DiFrancesco set for the Consi. The second Scratch semi had Faria on the poie, with Bobby "Boogaioo" Schwartz in two, and Manchester and Matt Browne in three and four. It was gate, lead and win to Faria. Manchester was a solid second. Schwartz and Browne would meet again in the Consi. The pole went to Browne for the Scratch Consi. Next to him was DiFrancesco. Castro was in three. Schwartz did not start. DiFrancesco got the best start, but Castro took the lead as they came out of two. Difrancesco settled for the second. Browne was third. for the Scratch main, Manchester picked three. Brant was the last to draw, but he just happened to draw the pole. Faria was in two, with Hicks in four. Brant and Hicks both got awesome starts, but Brant had the lead as they hit the first turn. Hicks tried everything short of throwing rocks to flnd a way around
