OH, JUNE 28 Continuing his training and keeping sharp on an off weekend from the AMA Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championship Series, Pro rider Jeff Gibson turned up at the Honda Hills facility to take part in a round of their popular Friday Night Series, Having started racing here more than a decade ago on his trusty Yamaha PW50, it was only fitting that Gibson would rocket out of the gate on his Max Pittsbacked Yamahas -and then storm off to a calculated and dominating whipping of the Pro classes. With the one-Iong-moto format of the Honda Hills Friday Night extravaganza, Gibson wasted little time getting to the front and tearing off with the wins, smashing the 125cc A competition with his YZ250F and wreaking havoc in the 250cc A money class with his manly YZ426F. While there were a few shakeups behind him, Wiiiy Browning and Vaiiey Yamaha's Steve-O Andrich kept close while chasing "Gibby" - at ieast in the early laps, before Gibson cruised to the cheekered flag. Nick Carroll was a surprise entry at this rollicking circuit. The fast Yamaha-mounted Amateur tore up both the Open class and the Schoolboy race. Finishing seeond behind Carroii in the Open battle was Newark's Brian Gonser; the Buckeye Powersports-sponsored Vet rider had a great night, mopping up in both the Over 25 and Over 30 classes aboard his CRF450R. Wey continued to cut into Woods' huge lead in the closing stages but ran out of time. Woods took the win, with Wey just behind and Rose 10 seeonds back in third. Robinson (respectfully referred to as the "King" in District 11, due to his speed, notoriety and eiderly status) has established a record for being consistently fast - and consistently racing: The old man has been winning races locally for better than 20 years now and won't slow down. This night wouid be no different for the King, loading up the family chariot and heading south for the third round of the Ohio County Fairs Motocross Championship Series, King Richard ruled the empire from the seat of his mighty Honda CRF450R. Royally manhandling the younger members at this splendid and prestigious fair race, Robinson racked up wins in the Over 30 and Over 40 classes amid much fanfare. In other racing news, Dickie Hoy and his Buckeye Powersports-backed CR125 stole the show in the 125cc A class, while the BWRsponsored Scott Kuchler took the money in the 250cc A class. Lancaster's Jesse Gustafson Jr. was the master of the 85cc classes. He ran to victory in the Mini Senior and 85cc Extra divisions. Hamilton's Charlie Mullins was spectacular under the neon glare of the Tiit-A-Wheei, while carnival music blared and interrupted the noise of the bikes, he stole off with two class victories - the Schoolboy and 125cc B classes. Two fast young men on their Yamaha PW50s were victors on the night: Evan Parkinson won his heat of the 50cc (4-8) division, while Ethan Scarberry won the other. East Bend Speedway Huskey. Neilsen Rating Top Spots at East Bend By MARK NWENS EAST BEND, NC, JUNE 29 Though it has been dry in the east, the staff at East Bend Speedway had the track watered down and in great shape for racing. Noah Huskey and Shawn Neilsen went to battie in the 125cc and 250cc B classes. Friends off the track but warriors on it, these two are among the best up-and-coming talent from District 29. Huskey took the holeshot in the first 125cc B moto, with Neilsen right on his tire. Huskey tried to hold him off, but Neilsen made the pass. Huskey stayed close, and when Neilsen went wide, Huskey went underneath to take back the number-one spot. It went back and forth like this all night, but when it was over, they had split the classes: Huskey took first in the 125cc B class, and Neilsen rated the first spot in the 250cc B class. In the combined age classes, Russ Pickett, contesting the Over 30 A class, took the holeshot, with Over 40 rider Barry Nelson right behind him. Next came Unlimited Amateur rider Zach Kutschenko, followed by Over 30 Andy Mitchell and Over 40 rider Thomas Perkins. Right after the holeshot, the changes started: Kutschenko got past Nelson to fall in behind Pickett, Mitchell made the pass on Nelson to take over third. Kutschenko tried to pass Pickett in the whoops, but Pickett shut him down. Mitchell fell in behind the two leaders. Kutschenko was pushing Pickett, but Pickett didn't give him a chance to get next to him. Coming across the back two doubles, Kutschenko got beside Pickett, but Pickett had the inside line going into the tum, making Kutschenko go wide and keeping the first spot. Kutschenko made the move in the whoops to get beside Pickett and made the pass. Pickett was not giving up, but Kutschenko put a little distance between them. Meanwhile, Mitchell moved up on Pickett to try to set up the pass. The white flag came out and the battle was on. Pickett was still looking to get back past Kutschenko and Mitchell was showing his front tire to Pickett. The three started to bunch up through the whoops, but spread out singie-fiie in the tum. Coming across the tabietop double, with Kutschenko in first and Pickett right behind, Mitcheli came hard at the jump to try to overtake Pickett, but somehow his front tire started downward too early and he ended up face-first in the dirt. Mitchell's bike went end over end, putting some deep craters in the track. After traveling about 125 feet, the bike came to rest.
