Walker is the current National MX Champion in both the Over 25 A and Vet A (Over 30) classes. The Kawasaki Volunteer State MX Cham- CINe pionships are used by many racers as a warm-up for Loretta Lynn's and Ponca City. Although the Southeast is in a drought and afternoons hit the high 90s, rain a few days earlier kept dust to a minimum. May didn't get holeshots in either Over 25 A moto; Mark IV's Tim Hodock of Pulaski, Virginia, came up with them. Hodock appeared to be in control early in the first moto, with May stuck to him like a sweaty T-shirt, but suddenly Hodock went down hard. "My front tire hit a big 01' dirt clod," explained Hodock, the MegaSeries Over 25 A points leader. "It crabbed and down I went. It hurt." By the time Hodock recovered, May was long gone, and Hodock finished fourth, following Shane Clampitt and Aaron Bollinger. Hodock avoided obstacles in the second moto to take the win, but his 4-1 finishes weren't enough to overcome May's 1-2 scores. Ules won the first moto following a first- turn pileup that claimed McCoy and Dodgen. The second go·around and the class win belonged to May, who took the win and kept McCoy in second despite heavy pressure from start to finish. Liles wasn't a threat, as his Suzuki's clutch plates were toast. Yamaha Cycle Center' Walker aced the Over 30 A contest, staying ahead of May, whose consistent rides earned him runner-up over Mountain Adventures Honda rider Kevin Blalock, Jamie McCoy and Aaron Bollinger. Team Green riders Ryan Sipes of Kentucky and Kyle Chisholm of Florida duked it out in 125cc B racing, waging a tug-of-war for the lead. First-moto winner Sipes looked good for the second-round win, but Chisholm got past him and rebuffed all attempts at a comeback pass. Chisholm ended up with the win via 2-1 finishes.
