z g :l; =; > til ~ Saturday there were helicopter rides and a hog roast. Making the weekend complete was Sunday's racing. On Thursday, 336 entrants made it out, as did just under 400 on Sunday. Heavy rains early in the evening on Saturday gave the track just enough moisture to have awesome conditions for Sunday's event. In Sunday's 80cc (7-11) race, Cory Vandal got the holeshot on his RM85 and led for two laps, in front of Ettesvold, until Ettesvold fiew by Vandal over a tabletop jump and then led to the checkers, in front of Vandal, Kody Klementson, Jeremy Bromley, and Derek Hom in the 14-rider field. Moto two was Ettesvold's from start to finish, as he took the win again. Vandal started second and finished there. Zach Brostrom ran third for half the mota until Klementson got by and finished third. Brostrom slipped to sixth at the finish. Dan Grieg ran fourth for most of the mota but slipped to eighth at the end. Bromley again took fourth, and Jordan Kemmerer improved on his first-mota eighth to take fifth. Results Arrowhead Speedway: Scott Brant (10) uses the inside line on Gary Hicks (3) to take the main-event win in San Bernardino, California. • Brant. to no avail. Faria was within striking distance, hoping for a mistake that never came. Manchester was fourth. The Handicap main had two dders on the 10-yard line, Danny Perkins and John DeFries. DiFrancesco had the 30 to himself. The 50 had Castro, Manchester and Brant. Perkins held off the pack for two laps, and then DiFrancesco got by on the inside for the lead. It came down to the iast lap and the last tum. Both Castro and Brant were in position to take the lead; Castro, out in the dirt, took the long way around, which got him the win by a tire's width at the checkers. DiFrancesco was second, with Brant third, followed by Manchester. Perkins and DeF nes. The object of the Total Image Challenge Race was very simple. Four riders - Faria, Castro. Brant and Manchester; one lap, and don't be last. The first to fall was Castro, followed by Brant. It came down to Faria and Manchester, and in the quick two-Iapper it was all Faria. Hurricane Hills MX Marysville County Fair Grabiel Grabs Gold By ROPERT X_ PEllElT MARYSVlUE, OH, JULY 4 While the fireworks flashed across the midsummer skies, Mount Gilead's own moto hero Jared Grabiel fired off a salvo of wins, as the local lad exploded to wins in a couple of classes at this Independence Day motocross event. A fair-race regular, Grabiel came out swinging at this fourth round of the Ohio County Fairs Motocross Championship Series. The Kawasaki-mounted youth struck hard, screaming through the whoops on his way to wins in the Schoolboy and 125cc B classes. Fighting back on this one·moto·format evening was difficutt, yet Ross Adams rode strong for second in the 125cc B class aboard his Trackside Grafx-sponsored YZ. Scott Kuchler had another terrific night. The BWR-backed Pro rider from Westerville stuck it to the pack, winning the 16-24 and 250cc A Money classes. Buckeye Powersports-backed Dickie Hoy had nothing to be ashamed of; the Greyhound bus driver flew his CR 125 to the win in the 125cc A division and ran second, behind Kuchler, in the 250cc A event. Hoy sneaked in a win in the Over 25 class, too, ahead of Marysville's own Justin Story, the Over 30 winner. Ehlenfeldt. Ettesvold Airborne on the Fourth of July By GEORGE AND KAREN HODKINSON MAZEPPA, MN, JULY 4-7 Scott Ehlenfeldt and Alex Ettesvold conquered two classes apiece on two days of racing at the Hurricane Hills MX track on the July Fourth weekend. Ehlenfeldt did it in the 1250c B and Youth classes, aboard his new KTMs from Rochester Power, while Ettesvold won the 650c (l 0- 11) class on both days on his KX65 and then jumped on a CR80 to win both days in the 80cc (7-11) class. Racing took place on Thursday, July 4, because AMA District 23 allows points-paying events to be run on holidays, and of course Sunday the seventh. Track owners/promoters Tom Gottas and Barb Holst planned ali year for the events that would take place throughout the weekend, making it a family-friendly and fun holiday weekend. On Thursday the fourth, after racing, the band The Rock Doctors played for the crowd until midnight, with a break for fireworks that Hurricane Hills provided at dusk. Then, on Friday and Saturday, nine-time District 23 champion Pat Donaho and GPS Racing put on a motocross racing school.
