Johnnie Gllrgano (Suz); 5. Kalen Atzpat.r'ick Florida Motocross Series Round 9: Dade City Raceway Sandblasting with Bernier Jonathan Camp, Mike Wolford and Dave Morningstar were in the top five. Coughlin was the first to drop out, scoring a DNF, as Camp moved up to Smith's rear wheel. Camp put the pressure on Smith to ride mistake-free. Moving into the last lap, Camp was right there, but his bike locked up and the race was over for Camp. Smith cruised to the moto win. The battle for third was now for second, and it involved Wolford, Brook Thorpe, Matt Dale and Brandon Abell. Thorpe moved around Wolford for second, and Abell passed Dale for fourth. The combined 65cc (7-9) and (10-11) contest got under way with Derek Hall leading the way over Wilfredo Guzman. On lap two, Guzman got the lead, only to go down in the sand horseshoe. Hall repassed and motored away with the win. Michael Bange moved to second, ahead of the battie for third, in which Kyle Goerke was trying to hold off Rodney Hartsfield. The pass was made and Hartsfield finished third, ahead of Goerke and a hardcharging Justin Starling. Bobby Tiesler pulled out to the win in the 85cc (7 -11) class, ahead of the battle for second. Stephen Upper held second, ahead of Hall and Guzman. Hall got the better of Guzman and set out after Upper. Hall made the pass for second in the closing laps. Johnnie Gargano made his way past Kalen Fitzpatrick, Kevin Csanadi and Josh Talmadge for fourth. The rains decided to come down during the 50cc Oil-Injected class. The track quickly filled up with water and the little ones had a tough time getting around just on the upper portion of the track. Kody Ketchum won the moto, over Michael Miller. Chris Sullivan, Tristan Foster and Brinsley Dyess rounded out the top five. The next race was the combined 125cc B and Over 35 contest. The track was a muddy mess, and all the riders and bikes got sandblasted with sand and water. Deep ruts developed rather quickly and parts of the track were under water. The rain stopped but the track had taken its toll and the races were called after the first set of motos. By CRAIG JOHNSON DADE CITY, FL, JUNE 30 Bradley Bernier sandblasted his way to the 250cc B-c1ass win at round nine of the fourth annual Florida Motocross Series, held at Dade City Raceway. The win came in dry conditions before the deluge of rain that hit the track twothirds of the way through the first set of motos. Randy Yoho and the track crew did a great job getting the track ready, since it had poured the night before as well as every day during the entire week before the event. The second set of motes were canceled because of the heavy rain. Parts of the track in the back were under one or two feet of water. The combined 250cc A/B contest got under way with Ronnie Monk leading the way! ahead of the B riders. Bernier and Dan Tru· man battled for second, with Truman briefly getting the spot. Bernier made his way past Truman and then Monk in the back section before the first lap was over. Truman didn't want Bernier to get away, so he passed Monk during the second lap. Monk let the B riders ride their own race, as Quinton Bigalow made it to third. The three began their battle for the lead. As Truman was trying to find a way around Bernier, Bigalow sneaked past Truman into second. The three-rider battle was over when Truman fell in the sand horseshoe, leaving Bernier and Bigalow to fight for first. Bernier ended up winning the mota, over Bigalow, with Truman a distant third. Jason Baker made his way past Chris Brice for fourth. The Supermini class was won by Kyle Keylon, who led from start to finish. Marisa Hampshire held second until falling in the dreaded sand horseshoe. This moved Jimmy Warren up to second. Michael Schwartz started fourth but ended up sixth. Tyler Tiffany, Bobby Tiesler and Troy Davis battled for fifth, which eventually became a battle for third. Davis made his way around Tiesler into fourth and then set his sights on Tiffany, in third. Davis found his way to third before the checkered flag, moving Tiffany back to fourth. Keylon found his way out front in the combined 85cc (12-1'3) and (14-15) contest. Simon Usuga, Kyle Tobin and Troy Snyder were close behind. Keylon motored away for the moto win, while Tobin passed Usuga for second. John Mulleavey and Tiffany made their way around Synder to fight for fourth. Mulleavey beat out Tiffany at the flag. Forrest Smith pulled the holeshot in the 250cc/500cc C contest.
