TALLASSEE, AL, JUNE 29
Virginia's Zach Osborne, trying to salvage an
injury·plagued season that saw him barely
make the field at Loretta Lynn's. made the trip
south to Monster Mountain to secure a spot at
Ponca City's NMA finals. The young Suzuki
rider took his AI Albiker·tuned RMs to wins in
both the Supermini and 85cc (12·13) classes,
ensuring himself of a place on the line at
Ponca. Equally impressive were Georgia's
Taylor Johnson and Grant Ransdell. who were
double-class winners as well, dominating their
respective classes.
This race marked the official grand opening of Monster Mountain's Miller Lite Super·
cross Stadium. Co· sponsored by Miller Brewing Company, the facility has already begun
to attract attention, and a large crowd of riders
as well as fans were on hand. The Southern
Dirt Works crew, headed by Greg Cole, did an
outstanding job of preparing the course and,
in addition to prOViding some fast and furious
racing, promoter Gary Blackwell contracted
Florida's Easternxtreme.com Freestyle exhibition team to put on a halftime freestyle exhibition. Riders Rudy Walter. Kenny Yoho and

Travis Willis put on a dazzling display of jumping skiU that had the crowd in awe.
The 125cc C class started off the night's
program and set the tone for an exciting show.
In the qualifier, Suzuki·mounted Jacob Capps
got off the line inches ahead of Alabama's
Zack Rossetti, and the pair began a battle
royal. Rossetti looked strong, but a bobble in
the whoops dropped him to third and moved
Kyle Phenix into second. Capps held on to
take top spot, ahead of Phenix, and Rossetti
rounded out the top three.
The main event was a different story.
Phenix put his YZ out front and held on for the
win, with Capps following in second and Georgia's Jack Wills rounding out the podium.
Rossetti did not break the top 10.
The Mini classes featured some of the
night's most exciting race action. Leading
things off was the Supermini contest. In qualifying, Osborne grabbed the start, followed by
Florida's Cole Boutwell and local hotshoe
James Ragsdale. Boutwell immediately closed
on Osborne and began trying to get around.
The YZ rider nearly made the pass in the
whoop section, but Osborne closed the door,
securing his win. Ragsdale kept pressure on
the two leaders and was able to gain the

second-place spot, ahead of Boutwell, near
race's end.
The main event again saw Osborne first at
the flag, with Boutwell in the runner· up spot,
and another Aoridian, Larry Partin Jr., rounded out the top three. Osborne came back later
to top the 85cc (12-13) class. winning both
the qualifier and the main event. Ragsdale and
Boutwell both would avenge their losses to
Osborne later in the evening, as Ragsdale
came b~ck to top the Senior Mini class and
Boutwell aced both the 125cc B and Schoolboy classes.
Impressive as the older riders were, some
of the best racing of the evening took place in
the 65cc and younger 85cc classes. Johnson
was untouchable as he rode to wins in both
the 85cc (7 ·11) group and the 65cc (10-1 I)
group. Johnson won both qualifiers as well as
both main events.
Another double·class winner was Ransdell.
The popular Georgia rider topped the 65cc
(7-9) bunch with a 1·1 sweep and. just for old
times' sake, crushed the 50cc (7-9) group as
well. Alabama's Patrick Lumpkin was equally
devastating, as he topped the Oil·lnjected
class and the 50cc (4·6) class.
CHILTON, WI, JUNE 29
At round six of the Northern Cup Motocross
Series, the class of the day had to be the
125cc B class. Any time these eighth·liter
machines line up, anyone· Andy Zambon,
Garrett Hojnacki, Todd Grube. Craig Wallace.
Jake laCount - can win on any given day.
Suzuki rider Hojnacki had a fine start in the
first moto, grabbing the holeshot ahend of
Grube, on a Yamaha. Grube tried to sneak in
on the inside, but Hojnacki took it away.
Finally getting a good start, Wallace found
himself in third. Hojnacki went to the inside of
the new whoop section as Grube railed the
outside tum, trying to get a drive into the lead,
but Hojnacki held it tight up through the stepdown section to retain the lead. Hojnacki led
the pack through the first lap, with Grube in
tow and Wallace close behind on his thumper.
Zambon worked his way through the pack into
fifth by the end of the first lap.
Hojnacki went down hard on the second
lap after a kicker in the fast straightaway,
relinquishing the lead to Grube, with Wallace
right on his tail. Zambon moved into third but
was too far from the top two riders to mount a
charge. With his four· stroke power, Wallace
gained some ground on the third lap on the
straightaways. Grube seemed to be a tad
quicker in the corners, keeping his lead intact.
On lap four, Wallace mounted a serious
charge to get right next to Grube along the
spectator double, making the pass stick going
into the white·flag lap. Grube stayed right on
Wallace's rear fender and charged through the
rocker section to retake the lead. Grube man·
aged to stay ahead through the whoops and
onto the straightaway. The Yamaha riders
were bar to bar through the flat-track section,
with Wallace outbraking Grube for the lead as
they entered the slippery right-hand corner.
Both riders were again together over the spectator double, but Wallace's momentum kept
him ahead through the last comer for the first·
mota win. Grube grabbed second. Zambon
rode strong in third. Rounding out the top five
were Suzuki jockey Broc Stroebel and Yamaha·mounted Chris Kodl.
Zambon took a surprising holeshot in the
second moto, but it didn'ttake long for Grube
to sneak in after the rocker section and take
the lead. Wallace had another good start, in
third, and pulled alongside Zambon in the
whoops, but Zambon stayed tight on the
inside to remain in second. Grube moved out
to a nice lead as {hey entered the fast back
section of the track. On lap two, Hojnacki
moved from fifth to third in the blink of an eye.
Wallace got around Zambon for second and
then Hojnacki took third from Zambon. It was
a three·way fight for the lead on the third lap,
with Grube leading the way and Wallace ~nd
Hojnacki close behind.
Grube looked relaxed over the spectator
double· almost too relaxed, as Wallace closed
the gap heading into the final lap. Grube and
Wallace diced it out on the final iap, but Grube
protected his lines to get the win and the over·
all. Wallace did everything he could on his
