first overall win in the Vintage class with
a 1-2 punch at the fifth round of the
Northern Cup Motocross Series,
in Chilton, Wisconsin.

holeshot in the Non-Current Vintage class on
his trusty old Suzuki. Chris Benavides surprisingly took the lead from Wotruba while enter-
ing the flat-track section. Shawn O'Brien
railed his CR500 past Wotruba into second
while Wotruba had first-lap woes. Benavides
led the pack through the first lap. but Wotruba
mounted a serious charge and was the only
rider doing the spectator double, gaining some
huge time on Benavides. Wotruba moved into
the lead on the second lap and never looked
back. O'Brien moved into second with his
smooth ti'action out of the corners. Wotruba
got the first·moto win, with O'Brien in second
and Jeremy Tabalske charging into third by
moto's end.
"I got the holes hot and had one bike
beside me and I doubied through it and then i
kind of snoozed as number 32 [Benavidesj got
past me, and then O'Brien did, too," Wotruba
said 8fter the first moto. "I finaily came back
into my own and got around O'Brien and then
the leader, and I didn't want to look back and
screw it up again, I'm glad I got the win."
O'Brien took the moto-two holeshot by
carving to the inside of Wotruba, but Wotrub8
was hard on the gas in the flat-track section,
trying to catch O'Brien on the first lap. Wotru-

early on. Wotruba p8ssed O'Brien in the new
section. Wotruba had it all but won until he
snubbed it on the final lap heading toward the
checkers, handing the lead over to Dedering.

Dedering took the win, but Wotruba fiMJly got
8n over811 win in the Vintage class, by posting
1-2 scores. O'Brien settled for second overall
with 2-3 tallies, and Dedering cracked the top
three with 7-1 postings.
