Victorville Motocross Complex Green Goes for Four in a Row Vlctorvllle Motocross Complex: Conner Green blasts a sandy tum en route to a four-moto win streak In Victorville, Califomia. By DoN STARK VICTORVILLE, CA, JUNE 29 With moto one locked and loaded at round two of the VMC Summer Nights Series, the tension mounted as the riders stllred at the gate, waiting for the slightest flinch. With a sharp snap and a sound like a massive swarm of bumblebees, the riders headed straight for tum one. Curtis McClelland led the Superstoek (7 -9) cl~ss to the first turn, followed by Andres Jaramillo, Conner Green, Kayla Carter, Dylan Anderson. Austin Carlson. Mason Rodriguez and Chad Ladage. By the time the dust had settled in turn one, Green was on a rampage. He was all over the sec· ond-placed rider, Jaramillo. By the h~lfway point of the first lap, the pass was complete. Now his sights were set on the leader, Thjs was the first race on the new Pee Wee track, and the task would not be an easy one. This track offers more terrain than did the old Pee Wee track. A combination of uphills, downhills, off-camber turns, sand. and high-speed, hard-packed clay offers a very challenging test for any Pee Wee's skills. It proved to be an advantage to the more seasoned Green, as he passed McClelland on the second I~p and never locked back. The battle for third was just getting started, with four riders going at it. Jaramillo made two laps In third before he started to feel the heat from a hard·charging Carter. Rodriguez had worked his way up to the battle by this time and was ready to capitalize on an offcamber-tum bobble on the part of Anderson. As Anderson slid off the good line, Rodriguez passed him on the inside. When they went back up the hill, Anderson regained his momentum, repassed Rodriguez, kept on going right p~st Jaramillo, and finally passed Carter for the third spot by lap six. Moto two st~rted with McClelland getting another holeshot. and thjs time he intended to keep the le~d. It was obvious that he had figured out the new track just fine and was ready to put an end to Green's winning streak. However, on lap three. Green found some extra speed, passed McClelland and started to pull away. Green has now won four in a row in the Superstock (7-9) class. At the next race, can he make it six? Results YAM (0·6): I. Bloyer, on his 2002 TM 250, was the only A rider to go 13 laps in the two-hour race and did so despite 95-degree temperatures. Second overall went to Ryan Moss, who made the 3 1/2-hour drive up from Rockford, Illinois. Moss, on his Fun Mart Cycle/Borelli Suspension-backed 2002 KTM 200, was actually in the lead for the first four laps. Moss had a 35-second lead over Bloyer at the end of lap two, but by the end of lap four Bloyer had closed the gap to a .9-second deficit. At the end of lap five, Moss opted to gas and get a splash of water. At that point, Bloyer p~ssed Moss and for the remaining seven laps was picking up the pace with a 20- to 25-second differential per lap over Moss. "It was a very good course - a little shoTt, but the club did a gocd job with the trails," Moss said. "They were marked very well and [were] technical but fun." Bloyer pretty much echoed Moss's analysis. "It was a great race," he concurred. "The course WllS really fun and gnarly. They had a neat uphill jump with rocts that you could just sky off of. The motocross track was a little dusty and hard-packed, but we used so little of it that it w~s no big deal." Trail bosses Rick Brereton and Ken Schuck of the Madison Motorcycle Club laid out the 3.6·mile course, which consisted of approximately half a miie of the CMJ Raceway motocross track and 3.1 miles of hilly, technical wocds. The Madison boys did a great job of laying out three different marked courses: one for the Minis; one for the A, Band C rid ers; and a shorter, more wide-open version of the A course for the quads. "The next race down here this fall, CMJ will be hosting." Brereton said. "We will be M OWEGO, NY, JUNE 30 Champion Speedway was full of thrills and spills. The guys from FMX East were on hand at Champion to put on a great freestyle motocross show. Casey Higgins and Clint Esposito realiy got the crowd Into it. Higgins was throwing huge whips. while Esposito was doing some Superman seat-grllbs and a variety of other tricks. Meanwhile, Speedw~y was as exciting as ever, with riders such as JBR Racing's John Cock and Tom Sephton on hand. In the Handicap main, Cook and Sephton started all the way in the back. Tom Burge and Jeremy Parsons were in front of them, and Fred Legault and Lee Bailey started toward the front. Bailey got out in front. but Cook went around everyone on the outside. Burge passed undemeath Bailey, who fell on the next lap, allowing Parsons ~nd Sephton by. Cock tock the win and tossed his goggles to the fans. Cam Rafferty, Sephton, Mikey Robinson and Cook each won their Scratch heats and advanced to the main event, along with Jeremy Parsons. who won the last-chance qualifier. In the main, going into the first corner, Robinson and Rafferty got together, causing a restart. Off the restart, Sephton got an excellent gate, getting ahead of everyone. Rafferty tried to catch him but couldn't. Cook came up on Rafferty on the outside and passed him on the last lap for second. Sephton, the points leader, tock the win, extending his points lead. Local favorite Merle Craven did excellently at Champion this week, his consistent riding winning two heats. The other he~t belonged to Lee Bailey, who passed Craven on the inside, pushing him up and allowing Mike Baumen to also slide under Craven. In the Support A semi, Tim Fey fell hard, flipping end over end; he got up ~nd walked away but was done for the night. Craven took the victory, with Bailey and B~umen right behind. The main was almost the same as the semi. Craven tock the lead, with B~umen in second. Alex Heath fell, allowing Russ Comell to get up to fourth. Bailey never let off. On the last lap, he caught up to Craven and Bailey. Craven was too low for Bailey to get around, which allowed Baumen to come off the comer on the outside. Baurnen used his speed to get back into second. but Craven was too far ahead, Craven won the race. with Baumen and Bailey right behind him. There were eight Support B riders. Chip Lengle seemed to be the fast rider of the night, winning two of his heats. The more consistent Bruzek won him three heats. making for a great main. Bruzek had a great start, pushing his way through traffic to take the lead on the first lap. Lengle came up from the back, riding hard and fast. Lengle passed people on the inside and the outside before catching Bruzek. Then Bruzek came out of one a little wild and Lengle moved into first and won the race. Results 0·1 SCR: I. Tom Sephton: 2.
