Dade City Raceway: Michael Bange won the 65cc Open class and placed second In the 65cc (9-11) class in Dade City, Florida. Malvem Fairgrounds: Justin Brayton (114) leads Denny Stephenson (6) in the 250cc A heat at the Malvern Nationals In Malvern, Iowa. was right on his tail - but this time Brayton didn't giv.. up th.. I..ad. H.. h..ld Stephenson off the entir.. race to get the win. So with both riders getting a heat-race win, it was still unclear who th.. fastest rider of the day was. That would have to be decided in the main events. The 125cc A main started out with a large group of riders pushing into the narrow first tum. When the dust cleared, Brayton was out front and Stephenson was on the ground. Stephenson remounted in last place and immediately regan charging toward the front, passing groups of three and four riders at a time. While Stephenson was playing catch-up, the top three riders - Brayton, Tyler Grossenbacher and Brandon Hoff - were pulling away. With Stephenson out of the picture. it still wasn't easy for Brayton. Second-placed Grossenbacher was staying right with him, waiting for a mistake. By the time Stephenson worked his way around Nick Delozier into fourth pl.ce, the top three riders had pulled away. Stephenson continued to charge hard but simply ran out of time, ending up in fourth place. Br.yton was able to hold on for the win, followed by Grossenb.cher in second and Hoff in third. After getting every holeshot so far, Brayton was unable to make it ZI perfect day in the 250cc A m.in. Ch.d Ule got the early lead, followed by Hoff .nd Stephenson. Brayton came out of the first tum in sixth, and now it w.s his tum to play c.tch-up. By the second I.p, Stephenson had moved into the le.d and was pulling away. Lile was holding on to second and was being pressured by third-pl.ced Grossenb.cher. Brayton w.s moving up steadily, and by the last lap he was battling for second with Lile. In the end, it was Stephenson t.king the win, with Brayton getting by Ule for second. Results BEG: I. Doug Aiam; _ ,........ Knocl. 2 .kff Bistline:; 3. Doug Zalila: 4_ Brett >0 JR' I. Logan K _ 2. U c • _ Dade City Raceway Bange Absorbs like a Sponge By eRNC JOHNSON DADE CITY, FL, JUNE 29 With the Dade City Points Championship Series taking a bre.k, the riders thought they might be able to relax and have a little fun the night before the Florida Motocross Series took place on Sund.y. If you like playing in the mud. I guess some riders might h.ve had fun and "relaxed"; usually you get a good workout riding in the mud. In the late afternoon, before the first motos began, the rain decided to pour down like it had for the past several days. It was decided that it would be a one-moto format for everyone. One rider who was getting in some track time before the next day's event was Michael B.nge. The KTM rider won the combined 65cc Open and 65cc Beginner classes. Following B.nge in the Open c1.ss were Kyle Combee and Anthony Z.ffino. Bange put up a good fight in the 65cc (9-11) contest .nd absorbed 1I11 the mud and water he could while follOWing Wilfredo Guzman. Bange could not find a spot to pass, and Guzman won the moto. Addison Morgan got third. Running combined with the 65cc (9-11) riders were the 65cc (5-8) racers, who were topped by Andrew Stocker. Michael Stevenson made an lIppearance in the 125cc A and 250cc A classes to show them how it's done. Stevenson did not have any competition in the combined 125cc A .nd 125cc C contest. The rider from nearby Brooksville took off in the lead and put a pounding on those poor 125cc Criders. Derik Bral.nd was able to hold off Nicholas Mackie for the win in the 125cc C class. David Early came in third, and Steven Whelan and Bryant Green rounded out the top five. In the combined 250cc A, Band C contest, Stevenson had a little competition from B rider Riley Hall, who kept Stevenson honest .s the two r.n away from the C riders. Winning the C class was Dana Rice. The biggest r.ce of the night w.s the 85cc Beginner class. The riders fought tooth and n.i1 among themselves and with the sloppy conditions. Coming out on top in the end was Cameron Doyle from ne.r by Lakel.nd. loxahatchee neighbors Joey Desane, Nicholas Chandler .nd Dalton Guttridge came in second, third and fifth, respectively, and Steve Rice put his Y.maha in the fourth spot. Club Moto Gassin Gassin' It at Club Moto By RANDY HElM UVERMORE, CA, JULY 5 Riders and spectators who survived the Fourth of July festivities were on hand at Club Moto the following day for round five of the Mutant Motorsports Friday Night Series. At least traffic to the track was light this week, due to the holidays! Yamaha rider David Gassin from Amold took the win in the 125cc and 250cc Intemnedi.te classes. Gassin put together four perfect motos for a clean sweep. In moto one of the 125cc Intermediate class, Gassin was followed across the line by fellow Yamaha riders Cory McD.niel in second and Mike Newnham in third. Moto two was another Gassin win, with Newnham and McDaniel tr.ding places. G.ssin (1-1) took the overall, Newnham (3-2) w.s second, and McDaniel (2-3) w.s third. The 250cc Intermediate motos were again won by Gassin, with other fellow Yam.ha riders deciding second through fourth. After GllIssin crossed the line for first in moto one, it was Mike Phillips t.king second and Chris Conley third. Club Moto regular Gary Forrest placed fourth. In moto two, Gassin and Phillips finishes first and second. with Forrest lind Conley trading spots. Gassin (1-1) took the win, Phillips (2-2) was second, Forrest (4-3) was third, and Conley (3-4) was fourth (3-4). Suzuki jockey Luke Layton had some great motos in the 80cc Intermediate class, taking the overall on the night. Moto one belonged to Layton. Beau Weigand was a factor until he DNF'd and let Layton run away. Kawasaki rider Joey Harris eventually finished second, followed by Cameron Ewing, who was riding yellow. Weigand had better luck with his bike in moto two and pulled off the win. Layton kept him honest and finished second, followed by Harris in third. Layton was the man with 1-2 scores for the overall, and Harris (2-3) took second. Weigand ended up third with a 5-1 tally. Weigand made up for his loss in the 80cc Intemnediate contest by winning the 80cc (1216) event, over Layton and Rico Niblas. Weigand also pulled off the win in the Mini Dash For Cash. The Big-Bike Dash For Cash win went to Manteca's Cory McDaniel. eN Results P/W SHAfT: I. Melissa Arva (Han); 2. Cal Johnson (Hen); 3. T)'ler Aries (Han). 50 (0.6): I. Brandon Oliveras (Pol): 2.
