CMC Skagit Powersports Pac West Nationals Round 3: Horn Rapids ORV Park STORV AND PHOTOS BV CLAV liGHT WEST RICHlAND, WA, JUNE 22 ason McCormick's double-class decimation at Horn Rapids ORV Park in eastern Washington appears to have thrust the Suzuki rider from Vancouver, Washington, back into the Northwest's motocross elite. After a five-month, injury-induced layoff, National number 76, McCormick, seemed to have shrugged off the effects of his knee injury, handily winning all four 125cc and 250cc Pro motos at round three of the CMC Pac West Nationals. Nearly 500 riders from seven western states were on hand for the 17th annual CMC Pac West Nationals, but it was the Washington riders such as Supermini and 85cc (12-13) class Dan Moore (716) and Jason McConnlck (76) battle during the first 125cc Pro moto at the third round of the CMC Skagit Powersports Pac West Nationals. McConnick won overall, and he also topped the 250cc Pro class. Cole Siebler was also among the day's dominant riders. The Suzuki jockey from Emmett, Idaho, also went on a four-moto rampage. Siebler put huge ground on his competition in all four of his 125cc and 250cc Intermediate victories. Kawasaki rider Keith Ford finished second to Siebler in both classes. Oregon's Ryan Huffman darted to the head of the field in the first 125cc Pro moto and held the lead for several laps, despite pressure from local Ted campbell finished second overall in the 250cc Pro class at Hom Rapids ORY Park. winner Josh Hill who dominated the majority of the classes. Hill went four for four on the day, but the rider from LaCenter, Washington, needed a bit of a break in order to cap off his perfect sweep. A poor start on Hill's part in the first Supermini moto allowed Idaho's Sam DeAtley to lead most of the race, enjoying a huge advantage until Hill slashed into DeAtley's lead late in the moto. DeAtley also finished second to Hill in the 85cc (12-13) class, followed by Shawn Haberlock. 62 JULY 24, 2002' cue I e rider Dan Moore, who shadowed Huffman for the first three laps and then took the lead when Huffman DNF'd due to a smashed exhaust on lap four. McCormick forged through traffic to chase down Moore just past the midway point and challenged the rider from nearby Yakima for two more laps before outjumping him to grab the lead. Once out front, McCormick built as much as a sixsecond lead over Moore, while Corder broke free from a huge six-rider pack vying for third late in the moto to finn e _ s ish there. Suzuki-mounted Idahoan Chaun McAlister, who ran at the front of the pack for nearly the entire moto, finished fourth, ahead of KTM rider Garhett Carter, local YZF pilot Jason Zuhlke, KTM's Jimmy LaMastus, Ryan Abrigo, Montana's Cameron Weaver and Oregon's Ryan Terlecki. Huffman was back out front in moto two, but once again Huffman encountered problems while running at the head of the field, although this time it was on the final lap. McCormick executed a perfect blockpass on the Oregonian to grab the lead, while Carter, Corder and Mike Storm filled out the top five in the early stages. Moore progressed through the field to trail McCormick after taking advantage of a bobble on Huffman's part. This left Huffman to fend off a pack of riders moving up through the pack - Suzuki rider Ted Campbell, Corder, and Terlecki. Corder maintained third to the finish to trail the long-gone McCormick and second-place finisher Moore. Campbell placed fourth, but a 17th-place finish in moto one placed him well outside of the top five overall. Terlecki finished fifth, followed by Carter, Weaver, Zuhlke, Ryan Metzler and Husky rider Wesley Parker. LaMastus was the fastest gun at the start of the first 250cc Pro moto, trailed by McCormick and Huffman, but several riders would take turns holding the point position in the early stages before yielding to McCormick for good. Huffman and Moore would also assume the lead, but both found out just how aggressive McCormick would be on this day. Moore ran a solid second to McCormick for much of the moto to garner the number-two spot, while another Supercross and National regular, Campbell, progressed through the ranks to finish third. Corder again posted a solid performance to finish fourth, slightly ahead of LaMastus, McAlister, Oregon's Tony Graves and Washington riders Billy Binckley and Paul Conner, who filled out the top 10 in the 21-rider field. Huffman and McCormick's moto-two battle was among the daX's best. McCormick eventually launched past Huffman to take the lead for good, although the Oregon rider stayed within striking distance for most of the • Mike Corder finished third overall in the 125cc Pro class and fourth overall in the 250cc Pro class in West Richland, Washington. moto until Campbell came knocking. After finally shrugging off challenges from fellow National riders Terlecki and Corder, Campbell pushed Huffman for many laps; Huffman finally made a slight bobble and that's all Campbell needed to capitalize. However, Campbell was docked one position for cutting the course, and Huffman was credited with a second-place finish. McCormick's big lead earned the Suzuki Motor Corp./Pro Caliber/Pro Grip/RG3/Wiseco-backed rider his second overall win of the day. Huffman, who did not finish moto one, was out of the overall picture, and Campbell (3-3), Moore (2-4), Corder (4-5) and Terlecki (8-6) rounded out the top five overall. eN Hom iIlIpids DRY Pm West Richland, Washington Results: June 22, ZOOZ [Round 31 WMN: 1.
