t1ing one another, Gaines sprinted away from
the field and opened up a little gap.
There was a lot going on midpack for the
first few laps. Young, Pestana and Davis all
moved quickly through the pack, while Blair
seemed content to let things settle down a bit
before he really opened it up. Casey Hinson
went over the bars and was done for the night.
A pack of riders finally caught Gaines, and
Young eventually took the point. It didn't look
like anyone would be able to challenge the
Moto XXX YZ250 pilot until Blair moved into
second with a few laps to go. Young had a sizable lead, but Blair hacked away at it and was
within a few bikelengths when the white flag
flew. Blair thundered after Young on his big
four-stroke - to no avail. Though Blair had
more power through the whoops and down the
long start straight, Young made no mistakes
and held on by about three bikelengths for
the win.
There's no doubt that the boisterous crowd
got their money's worth of racing that night.
Even though the Salinas fans may have been
sorry to see the CMA crew leave town, they
needn't worry - the series will be back in a
couple of months.
then watching as T urna would pull a little lead
back in another. All the while, Paul waited in
vain for either one to make a mistake that
never came, while holding off a charge from
Jade Dungy of Chaska. The fifth spot went to
Wodtke, who contested the 125cc B class on
his KXIOO, charging hard all night but without
the power to catch the young daredevils
ahead of him.
Cory Keeney of Oakdale was once again
the Pro-class winner, with Mike Kann of
Oronoco second. This left Brett Ohland of
Prior Lake in third. Making his return to racing
after a big get-off at the Elko Speedway four
weeks ago was Lee Theis of Belle Plaine.
"I got riding last night and my muscles are
a little screwed up, but I'm at about 90 percent," Theis said. "I should be back to normal
after all my rehab - which means I'll only have
one bad shoulder."
Rounding out the top five once again was
Clayton Carlson of Webster.
The series heads next to Jackpot Junction
Casino and then across the state to many of
the county fairs throughout the summer. With

Minnesota State Supercross Championship Series
Round 3: Scott County Fairgrounds
Wodtke - Crossing
Jordan Finish First
By Gay OHlAND
JORDAN,MN,JUNE 14
Before heading out on the road, the Minnesota
State Supercross Championships packed in
one more njght of action at the Scott County
Fairgrounds in Jordan. A good-sized crowd
watched as more than 160 riders competed on
the only true supercross track in the upper
Midwest. The over/under bridge is proving
to be one of the hottest attractions around,
and it's the talk of the pits all night long. With
16 of 23 finishes counting toward the championship, you can bet that the racing will
be heating up as the series moves around
the state.
One of the biggest classes of the night was
the hotly contested 80cc (12-15) class. Each
year, this class brings on some new talent
from around the area. This year, it's Kody
Schantzen of Hutchinson, Minnesota. The
Loretta Lynn's Amateur Nationals-bound
speedster showed up on his Sinisalo/Hutchinson Motorsports/Mom and Dad-sponsored
KX85 and toured the track in the heat race.
He easily cleared the big triple and a very
technical double out of the corner after the
whoops - which even some of the Pros weren't
able to do - to finish 13 seconds ahead of Jordan's own Matt Wodtke. Elko's Aaron Deer
kept Wodtke honest and finished in third.
However, the ride of the moto had to be that
of last round's winner, Ricky Vig, as the
youngster from Shakopee fought his way
