Tony Souza of Souza Racing, on a CCM Rotax, got the lead in the Open A contest after ond·moto win to claim the overall win by way a restart. Souza went into the first tum in sec- bined. Steven Ball was on the gas and went I-I for the 85cc (12·13) win, while Bryan Burnett went 2-2 for second. Shea Fouchek locked strong to claim first overall in the 85cc (14-15) class. The 50cc and 65cc bikes ran combined and had some gocd race action. Huntter Watson and Kolby Ralston went after each other hard, with Watson taking the first-moto win in the 65cc (7 -9) class, followed by Ralston, who represented the 65cc (10-11) class. Ryan Wallace went 2-2 to finish second overall, behind Watson. In the 50cc ciass, Billy Humphries went 1-1 for the overall win. Even the track owner got in on the action. It's in the Can for Miller at Hansen's Tony Miller tock his Yamaha to a 2-2 finish in the Over 40 class, behind class winner John Mitcheil. The Over 40, Over 35 and 250cc Open were run combined, with Randy Mitchell taking the win in the Over 35 category and David Burnett finishing second in both motos. Clayton Miller took the overall win in the 250cc Open class, going 2-1. Donnie Bunker tock the first-moto win but fell back to third in the second moto, ending the day in second over~ll. Cody Drewek finished 3-2 for third. Terry Struhall went 4-4 for fourth. By J.B. Watson Results Freestone County Raceway WORTHAM, TX, JUNE 13 Even though the turnout was light, the rider support was huge at the inaugural Hansen's Energy Drink Summer Championship, hosted by Tony Miller and his staff at Freestone County Raceway. "Freestone is all about the rider" was the theme of the day at this topnotch Texas facility. Due to the light turnout, Miller made the decision to dedicate the day to the riders in preparation for the forthcoming Loretta Lynn's National, running 20-minuteplus-two-Iap motos. From the 80cc riders to the Vets, the word in the pits was, "I'm spent!" The rider support was awesome, with con· tingencies abundant from Hansen's Energy Drink, Struhall's Racing, Munn Racing, Honda of Houston, D&S Kawasaki-Honda, Houston Yamaha Motorsports, Highlands Kawasaki, Longhorn Powersports, Lamb's DFW Honda, Emig Racing, TH Racing, Dunlop, Silkoiene, Tsubakl Chains, CTi2, Motion Pro, Sunoco, Moshpit, Pro Action Suspension, JM Racing, Wiseco, EBC Brakes, Shift, Renthal, Pro Circuit, Alpinestars, 5 Magics Racing and Spy. In the 125cc Intermediate ciass, Clayton Miller was on fire. Clayton whipped his Yama- ha to both moto wins, with David Tarnow coming in at 2-2 for second, while Donnie Bunker tock third overall by going 3-3. East Bend Speedway Battle of the 12s By Mark Neuens EAST BEND, NC, JUNE 15 At round two of East Bend's AMA Summer Series, the number 12s had ~t it. Josh Thomas and Stephen Winters battled their number-12 Kawasakis in the Mini classes; Thomas won the Supermini class and Winters won the Unlimited Mini class. These two classes ran together. Winters took the lead, but Thomas took over at the end of the first lap. Behind them, Cameron Lambert was in third, with Jeremy Reid and Kasey Flinchum right behind. Flinchum made an aggressive move in the back doubles to p~ss Reid for fourth. Thomas put a little dis- tance between him and Winters, but Winters wouid not let up. Tray Dobson, running in the Unlimited Mini class, had trouble ~t the hoieshot and was playing catch-up. He worked his way back past Thomas Neuens and then Shayn Adkins to take third, behind Patrick Lowman. Flinchum worked up next to Lambert, pushing behind him. On the last I~p, Lambert and Flinchum went through the middle doubles and Flinchum had the speed to get by Lambert in the tum before the whocp section, but had the line directly behind lambert and caught his b~ck tire and went down. Reid went by Flinchum as he was picking up his bike to take back the third spot in the Supermini class. Tony Miller (Yam). In the second moto, Thomas took the holeshot, with Winters and Lambert close behind. On the first lap, Thomas was holding first, followed by Winters and L~mbert, ~nd Flinchum was next, in front of Reid. Dobson got a better start and wos behind R~id. Thomas heid on to keep first in the Supermini portion, with Lambert second. Winters got first in the Unlimited Mini c1~ss. Flinchum got Reid in the second moto to get third overall, and Reid had to settle for fourth overali. In the 85cc (7 -II) class, 10 riders took off from the gate. Kevin McMullan took the holeshot, with Greg Sellers second, Tanner Wilson third, Justin Coley fourth and William Wenk fifth. Sellers had Wilson and Coley close behind him, looking for the chance to go by. Wilson went side by side with Sellers into the turn, but Sellers took it back. Wilson tried again and went down. Meanwhile, up front, McMuil~n was holding a good lead but crashed on the double on the last lap, injuring his shoulder; he was out for the night. Coley took first overali, foliowed by Wilson, Wenk, Ricky Winters, and Glenn Balfour. John McGinty took the holeshot in both 50cc Shaft motos. Matthew Burkeen ran second, Aaron Leininger third and Kyle Mitchell fourth. The first two stayed the same throughout both motos, but in the last moto Leininger went down and Mitcheil made the pass.
