Texas Series Round 4: Cycle Ranch MX Park Schultz Stuns 'em at Cycle Ranch By BRIAN COMEAU FLORESVILLE, TX, MAY 26 Thlrteen-year-old Tyler Schultz proved he can run with the big boys. piloting his CRF450R to wins in the Open class and the 250cc Novice class. Schultz was racing 80s earlier in the year but has now moved up to the full-sized machines and seems to like the CRF450R quite a bit. Schultz also leads the series points battle in the 250cc Novice class. Kyle Parks took the holeshot in the Open class. ahead of Schultz, Andy Gilkey and Donnie Eimer. Elmer made his move for third early. Headed into the woods on the second lap, Schultz surprised a few folks when he shot out in front of Parks, taking the lead on his Honda of Houston mount. When they came out of the woods. Schultz was still out front. Schultz was able to hang on and take the firstmota win, ahead of Parks. Elmer picked up third, ahead of Gilkey. Mike Shirley took the holeshot in the second mota after finishing sixth in the first mota. Schultz was once again right there in second, ahead of Elmer. Schultz struggled in the second mota. falling and losing second place to Elmer. Nevertheless, he kept charging and finished the mota in third. Shirley. who was not a factor in the first moto, came rallying back to pick up the mota win and third overall via a 6-1 score. Elmer's 3-2 tally eamed him second overall, but it was not enough to stop Schultz from taking the overall aboard his HHRIJM Racing Honda CRF450R. Tyler Wharton took the holeshot in the first mota of the Minibike Open class. with Shea Fouchek and Jake Miller following. Coming out of the woods. Fouchek had taken over the lead from Wharton. while Melton and Matthew Cornelia had moved up to third and fourth. Fouchek set a blistering pace and pulled away early. Fouchek's lead continued to grow, getting as big as eight seconds before the finish. At the finish, it was Fouchek ahead of Wharton, while Cornelia had moved into third, ahead of Melton and Perry. After a rough first mota that left him in eighth, Hackley wanted to make sure the second mota was much better. Hackley picked up the lead early. ahead of Perry and Fouchek. Fouchek was qUick to make the pass on Perry. At the end of the first lap. it was Hackley. Fouchek. Perry. Comelia and Melton leading the way. Hackley was pulling away early, building a six-second lead over the field. Hackley continued to walk away with the second mota, picking up the win and ending the day in fourth overall. The 1-2 finishes of Fouchek eamed him first overall. ahead of the 5-3 tally of Perry and Melton's 4-4 finishes. Weston McCulloch rounded out the top five with a 7 -5 score. In 125cc Novice action, Ian Matthews could not be stopped. Matthews picked up the holeshot in the first mota and never looked back. building a 30-second lead on the field along the way. Behind him. Marshall Smith held down second place for most of the race until a last-lap crash sent him to seventh, while Austin Miller picked up the runner-up spot. Adam Reson finished the mota in third, ahead of the Hondas of Dustin James and Justin Malcolm. The second mota looked a lot like the first. In that Matthews once again pulied the hoieshot and took the early lead over the field. It was obvious that the only race on the track would be for second. Reson held the runnerup spot at the start, with Jeremy Hardin and Smith in third and fourth, respectively. Smith quickly made the pass on Hardin and set out after Reson. Smith made the pass on the Yamaha YZ250F of Reson at the start of the second lap and never looked back. At the checkers, Matthews dominated the field with a 1-1 score, ahead of Smith and Reson. Reson was still able to pick up second overall with a 3-3 score, over the 7-2 tally of Marshall. Malcolm picked up fourth and fourth overall, ahead of James (4-7). Cycle Ranch MX Park Floresville. Annual MOA Auction Florida Motocross Series Round 8: Motocross of Marion County MDA Auction BE Cruz Cash In By CRAIG JOHNSON AND ANGELA HARDEN Cycle Ranch MX Park: Tyler Schultz has been turning a lot of heads aboard his CRF450. Schultz picked up wins in the 250cc Novice and Open classes at round four of the Texas Series in Floresville. 78 JULY 10, 2002· cue I e n e _ s REDDICK, FL. JUNE 2 It's that time of year again - the annual MDA Auction was held at round eight of the fourth annual Florida Motocross Series at Motocross of Marion County. The auction was very successful. bringing in over $5000; all proceeds go to the MDA. The auction was held in between the first and second sets of motos. A raffle awarded those who bought the winning tickets with prizes such as goggles, grips, vouchers for the Travis Blackburn Riding Schools, and numerous other items all donated by different companies. There was a silent auction, in which people bid on larger items that had also been donated. The biggest event of all was the actual auction, presided over by a real, bona fide, fast-talking auctioneer. Items up for auction included three- and four-day getaways to places such as Sea World, Arabian Nights. and other vacation spots. New helmets were also bid upon, but the most popular items were the jerseys and pants donated by the professional motocross and supercross riders, Sebastien Tortelli's jersey went for $150, and Ricky Carmichael's went for $235. The biggest ticket item was James Stewart's riding gear, which topped out at $750. Everyone has to remember. though. that it's all for charity. One rider who cashed in on the day was Camden Cruz. After a hard-fought first 125cc C moto, Cruz almost won. In the second moto, Cruz cruised in for the mota win and the over· all. Cruz also rode to a respectable third over· all in the 125cc Youth class, against some very fast B riders. Mateo Usuga led the first 125cc C mota. followed by Kyle Levalley. Justin Bryant. Shane Earhart and Cruz. Levalley took the lead, only to go down shortly after and drop to the back of the pack. Moving to the front was Bryant. followed closely by Usuga. Cruz moved to third, leaving Earhart in fourth. Chris Gates moved into the top five. Bryant lost first to Usuga. and Cruz was there to also take second away from Bryant. Cates passed Earhart for third and began closing on the leaders. Cruz put the pressure on Usuga for first but never got a wheel under to pass. The three finished in that order. Bryant got fourth,
