all night. Bigelow, Stanley and then Kopp rounded out the top five. Landes passed Kopp just after the finish line on the front straight. Eslick was charging in on Kopp. Cartwright, Poovey and Vernon had a three-way battle for 10th, with Cartwright leading the way. Schnabel made his move on lap 19, passing King when both encountered lappers. Pegram and West were racing each other but moved over when shown the blue flag. King then got back around Schnabel for the lead on the back straightaway. Bigelow was running a lonely third. Stanley had Landes all over him. With five laps to go, Eslick passed Kopp at the finish line. Wait was right behind Eslick and also got around Kopp. Hlebo was by himself in ninth. Cartwright was around Poovey and then pulled away from the 2001 champion. With two laps to go, King and Schnabel sliced through traffic. They with Bigelow, Kopp's gearshift fell off, and his KTM was stuck in fifth gear for the rest of the main event. Stanley passed the hard-luck Kopp to take over fourth place. Eslick was in fifth, but he crashed before the Dunlop jump. Landes got around the fallen Eslick for fifth, but Eslick kept the bike running and was up before Pegram also passed him. Pegram and Hlebo were now running just ahead of Wait, who was eighth with about 10 laps to go. Two laps later, Pegram's pipe was coming off. The black flag came out for Pegram, but the Suzuki rider got rid of the fallen part and remained on the track.
