Duranczyk was not far off the pace of the leader. She showed the boys that she has the talent and the will to get the job done. She pulled off a perfect day with a 1-1 win. Briann Stiles and Tiffany Nichol finished out the top three in the Women's class with pride. intervals. The 38-year-old Converse was first into the scoring area at the end of lap one, but just seconds behind were Kirk Foster, on his 200 Gas Gas, and Scott McBurney, on his KTM 200. Converse's 2002 Husky 250CR was sounding quite powerful as he was came through the start/finish area, but by the end of lap two, he was still oniy six seconds ahead of Foster, who was followed five seconds later by McBurney. While the three front-runners were enjoying a mostly dust-free, 8.5-mile, hard-packed course laid out by NOW trail boss Lee Jobe, the 22 following AA and A riders had an entirely different view of the course (or lack thereof). There wasn't a whole lot of passing going on. Mjnnesota's Chris Bloyer, on his Northway Sports/Moose Racing TM 250, had moved from 12th on lap one to sixth overall by the end of lap three. It was a fun course," Bloyer stated, "but because of the dust, you needed to be up front early." This had been Converse's quest from the get-go. By the end of lap three, Converse had opened up a 42-second lead over Foster and a one-rninute-and-40-second cushion on McBurney. There were no changes in position among the top six, as the wily Husky rider built his lead to one minute and 21 seconds over Foster and a two minutes and 28 seconds on McBurney by the end of lap four. With temperatures approaching the upper 80s and a dry, hard-packed and dusty 8.5 miles yet to be completed, the win was conceivably still up for grabs among the first six racers, but the fifth and final lap saw no changes in the order. Converse scored the overall win. Foster was the top AA rider, followed by McBurney, Gary Barber and Bloyer TM 250. Scott Porter, on a Racing Unlimited KX250, was the Overall A winner after a nice ride. Lucas Neavin, on a 2001 Honda CR250, was the overall B winner after an impressive ride. The NOW dub's hard work is appreciated, as are the event's sponsors: Yamaha Motor Corporation, Nishna Valley Cycle, Wyman's Ford, Bigelow Welding, Holtz Kawasaki, Houghton State Bank, The Loading Chute, Parker Hannifan, Nicholas Cycle, Red Oak Industrial Gasses, Bower Welding, and Steve's Auto Repair & Welding. PEllETT LOGAN, OH, JUNE 2 If your last name was Haning, you were doing great at the Wild Wilderness round of the AMA District 11 Suzuki Spring Series. Dempsey Haning of Orient, Ohio, mopped up the competition in the 125cc C class on his Yamaha, taking both wins and besting local Chris Thompson. Westerville's Zach Haning loaded up the trophies from three classes: Zach tallied a second-place finish in the 125cc B class, a fifth in the J 6-24 age division, and a major two-moto sweep of the large, talent-laden 250cc B class. While Zach Haning stole the show in the 250cc B class, second place went to Mark Kiser, with two second spots. Waverly's Kiser, no stranger to the podium, then beat up on the Veteran classes in the B division, taking three of four moto wins in Over 25 B and Over 30 Bracing. Great weather and an overflow crowd at this spectacular circuit, made for fine racing all day long. The A classes were full of money-hungry Experts. Yamaha-mounted Pro privateer Chris Whitcraft was the man in the 125cc and 250cc A classes, sweeping both 125cc A motos, though he struggied to 4- J finishes in the 250cc A class. Thanks to some bumping and erratic finishes by all the local fast guys, Whitcraft's 4-1 score was good enough for the overall. Lancaster's Steve Andrich took second with a 3-3 performance. Laurelville's Colin Thomas was absolutely brilliant in the 50cc (7-8) class, taking both wins on his mighty yellow King Cobra. Cincinnati's Justin Weeks took no prisoners. This amazing speedster railed his Kawasakis in for four wins in the 65cc and Mini Junior categories. Another incredibly talented young District 11 hotshot, Michael Willard, spanked two classes. The feisty Schoolboy 125cc and Mini Senior divisions were owned by the smiling youth from Thonville. Once again, Allen Nutter, on his Yamaha YZ85, showed everyone the fast way around Wild Wilderness' tricky track, taking the win over Ryan Brumfield in the 80cc Extra division. Mike Morgan bested big buddy Mikey Blair in the Over 30 A class; Morgan's 2-1 tally sank Blair's 1-2 score, while "King" Richard Robinson stormed to third overall with a 4-4 showing. The "King" also styled his way to a 1-1 sweep of the Over 40 class. Brad Strunk and Steve-O Andrich went at it hard in Over 25 A action. After the paint dried and plastic was replaced, it was Strunk with a 2-1 tally over Andrich's 1-2 finishes. Results P/W 50: I. J.T. Turner (Yam): 2. Evan Perkinson (Yam); 3. Brock Boyter (Yam). Arrowhead Speedway Brant Three-Peats By ElAINE JONES SAN BERNARDINO, CA, JUNE 5 When you're hot, you're hot, and that's exactly what Scott Brant was as he won the Scratch main at Arrowhead Speedway for the third week in a row. Ed Castro, who's been a top finisher all season, won the Handicap main. The first Scratch semi had Danny Perkins on the pole, with Chris Manchester in two, Shaun Harmatiuk in three and Brant in four. The gate went to Brant, with Manchester hot after him. Brant won the quick four-Iapper. Perkins heid off Harmatiuk until the white flag, when he went high in four. They wouid meet again in the Consi, while Brant and Manchester were headed for the main. The second semi saw the pole go to Shawn McConnell. Next to him was Castro. On the outside were Randy DiFrancesco and Northern California rider Billy Janniro, who would soon be on his way back to Europe, where he rides in a league. Janniro got the gate and the transfer by going wire to wire. McConnell held on to second for one lap before Castro took over for the other transfer to the main. DiFrancesco got by McConnell, but both would still make the Consl. McConnell drew the pole as they lined up for the Consi, with DiFrancesco in two, Har- Wild Wildemess Raceway: Charlie Ounaway (121) takes the 250cc A holeshot at the sixth round of the District 11 Suzuki Spring Series in Logan, Ohio.
