had the Harley-Davidson of Elkhartbacked machine wide open off the line. Frazier hit the kicker wide open and it launched the rear wheel straight up in the air. He tried to keep the throttle on and land it, but the bike endoed, slamming him into the ground. He was not seriously hurt, but his day was over, as the hill workers attacked the kicker with shovels before the second set of rides. Strank decided to run first as the second round got under way. The strategy worked perfectly, as he kept the R1 straight all the way to the top for a new fast time of 9.666 seconds. Castledine also turned it up a notch on his second attempt to score a 10.348-second run and take fourth overall, ahead of Greg Williams with a 10.908 time that dropped Libhart to sixth. The race for the win came down to the last two riders. Watson had problems on his first ride. "I got sideways over the second jump and the bike took off for the trees, so I had to shut it down," Watson explained. "Now, I have to try to ride smooth and get some points out of the day." Watson didn't seem to be holding back as he neared the first jump online. He nailed the jump and was straight when he landed slightly to the left of the ruts, eventually setting a 9.504-second run. The run moved Strank into the second position. "Your lead is never safe when Dave still has a ride left," Strank said. "That was a great ride he just put in." Russ Vander Veen was the final rider, and he wasn't able to reach the top - securing Watson's win. "Maybe I'm back," Watson said. "A win on my favorite hill - hopefully I can keep it going." Large finished third despite crashing out on his second pass.
