AMA District 27 Motocross Series
Round 4: Washougal Motocross Park
Ryan Huffman won the Over 25 Pro
class and finished second overall to
Mike Corder in the 250cc Pro class
at round four of the AMA District 27
Motocross Series.
Huffman was in his element at the
start of the first 250cc Pro moto, taking command of the 28-rider fjeld,
which also included B-c1ass riders .
Honda CRF450R riders Jason
Matthews and Greg Crater ran second
and third to the Yamaha-mounted
Huffman, but by lap two Corder had
overcome his poor start and chased
down Huffman. However, Huffman
held the point position to the finish,
followed by Corder, Crater, Tyler
Fick, Travis Murphy and Matthews.
Corder improved his starting position in moto two, as he trailed Huffman on the opening-lap parade, but
Corder would trail Huffman for nearly
the entire moto. Corder got around
the former factory-backed rider on
the final circuit to take the win and,
more importantly, net the overall
victory via 2-1 placings. Huffman's
1-2 performances earned the rider
from Roseburg, Oregon, the secondplace money, followed by Crater's
consistent 3-3 placings. Murphy
(5-4) and Matthews (6-5) filled out
the top five overall.
In the adjoined B class,
Honda rider Bob Melloy aced
both motos, followed by fellow
Washingtonian Nick Foister
and Oregon's Trevor Brooks.
KTM rider Kenny Webster had
an exceptional moto-one ride,
finishing second, but he got
off to a poor start in moto two
and couldn't recover, finishing
15th. Jason Couser, who
made the lengthy drive from
southern Oregon, finished
fourth overall, followed by
Portland's Scott Sherrell.
Huffman had a much easier
time in the Over 25 Pro class,

WASHOUGAL, WA, JUNE 2
... MA National riders Mike Corder
and Ryan Huffman clashed in two
classes during the latest round of the
AMA Washougal District 27 Summer
Motocross Series at Washougal
Motocross Park. After the dust had
cleared, the outcome between the
two w~s in favor of the Kawasakimounted Corder.
Corder, who two weeks earlier at
the Hangtown 125cc National had
placed 17th in the second moto, was
the overall winner in the 125cc and
250cc Pro classes. Huffman and
Corder split moto wins in both classes, with Corder taking advantage of
Huffman's absence in the first 125cc
Pro moto to garner the overall win.
Corder won the second 250cc Pro
moto and finalized his two-class
sweep on the day. Huffman, who was
a three-class contestant, was not
left out of the overall picture, as
the Yamaha rider aced both Over
25 Pro motos.

as he got out front and stayed there
for the duration in both motos. Melloy
rode impressively in moto one and
trailed Huffman at moto's end, while
Matthews, Trever Portner and Steve
Miller rounded out the top five.
Huffman snared a win in moto two
to finalize his sweep, while Melloy
held off the challenges from Matthews
to net second overall.
Huffman didn't start the first 125cc
Pro moto, making things much easier
for Corder, though he had initial challenges from former minicycle speedster Fick, now a second-year Pro.
Corder displaced Fick on the second
circuit to take the lead - one that the
Team Green/Pro Circuit-supported
Corder would maintain to the wave of
the checkered flag.
Huffman did damage in moto two,
putting his Yamaha YZ250F out front
and staying there to drop Corder to
second. However, Corder snared the
overall win via 2-1 placings, trailed
by Suzuki-mounted Oregonian Ryan
Metzler, who finished second in moto
one after
spirited charge through
traffic and then trailed the AMA Pro
duo to the finish in moto two to garner second overall, ahead of Tyler
Kavaney (4-5), J.R. Vielle (3-6) and
Murphy (6-4). Webster fared much
better in the 125cc B class by trailing
Couser in moto one and then winning
moto two for an overall win.
Suzuki-mounted Adam Metzler had
a nearly perfect day, scoring two
overall C-class wins. Metzler dominated the two 250cc C motos, beating Ronnie Noel and Ryan Overfield
to win the 21-rider class overall. Noel
handed Metzler his only loss of the
day in the 125cc C class' second
moto, but a frustrating 29th-place finish in moto two left Noel well outside
the top 10 overall. Metzler used consistent 1-2 performances to net the
rider from Gaston, Oregon, his second of two overall wins on the day.
KX jockey Guy Tow and Robert Wullbrandt finished second and third
overall, respectively.
Alaska's Ben Lamay and Washington's Josh Hill were the cream of the
crop in the two Supermini classes,
with Lamay scoring a win in the 9-11
division. Lamay, who is on an extensive Northwest stay which will also
see him at the upcoming CMC Pac
West races, dominated both motos to
lead Jake Anstett and Taylor McKee
overall. In the elder 12-15 division,
Hill hammered the competition, using
a tally similar to that of Lamay's, a
1- 1, to beat Chris Johnson and fellow
Washingtonian Jon Niemi. Both
Lamay' and Hill would later come
back to also post wins in the 85cc
(7-11) and 85cc (12-13) classes,
respectively.
