AMAIChevy Trucks 1 25cc National Championship Motocross Series Round 5: Budds Creek MX Park I can defmitely run with him." Pennsylvania's Jesseman was again a threat aU day long, though he blew a fairly good start in the first moto. "I was about fifth off the start in the first moto, but then I went off the main rut into all of the mud they had scraped off the track since it rained on Friday and got stuck for a second," explained Jesseman. "About 10 guys went past me, and I was bumming. The track was kind of one-lined because of the rain and 1 rode tight at first, but I loosened up enough in the end to catch Brock and Buddy." In the second moto, Jesseman was clawing through traffic to second while Stewart was carving up the track all by himself out front. By the time he made it past Antunez for second on the fourth lap, Stewart had already gapped the field by 22 seconds. "I know I have to get a better start to run with Stewart, but everyone can be beaten, and I want to be the guy that shows that it can be done," Jesseman said after his second podium overall in the last three races. "It's all about the start," said Fonseca, who was coming off of a career-best second overall at South- (Left) By winning both 125cc motos, Stewart moved back into the series lead. (Below) Fonner series leader Chad Reed rode through a sore shoulder and finished an Impressive second. Reed's ride in his own Budds Creek debut was a purposely cautious effort. The Australian import DNFed a moto himself last week in Massachusetts when his shoulder popped out of socket toward the end of the first moto. He somehow gutted out a solid third in the second moto there, then hoped to just survive the Budds Creek race with enough points to stay with Stewart. "I just had to play it safe this weekend - I can't just go throwing myself on the ground," explained Reed, who went 2-4 for second overall. "It would be a disaster to have raced last week and gone through all of that pain only to come here and throw the championship away. Now, I have a couple of weeks before the next race [at Red Bud in Michigan] to strengthen the shoulder and get going again. The shoulder didn't give me too much pain, but just the idea of it coming out again is always in the back of my mind. I just can't hang it out in those first couple of laps. I just can't seem to get a good start, either, but if I get in behind [Stewart], I think 14 JUNE 26, 2002' cue I _ n __ s wick. "There are a lot of guys out" there now who run a pretty good pace, and it's tough to get around them. That was the difference today. I was pushing Branden as much as I could in the second moto, but he was running a pretty good pace, so I had to settle for third. But I'm happy with how I rode, and I'm really looking forward to getting to Red Bud and getting my Honda up front." Red Bull KTM rider Sellards was back on-track at Budds Creek after sitting out the last six weeks of the series with something called EpsteinBarr's Virus, which causes chronic fatigue. Sellards was very impressive, holding off a late attack from Antunez and Jesseman to score third in the first moto, then grinding out a seventh in the second moto for a solid fifth overall. "It just feels great to be back out here riding," Sellards said after the race. "The virus attacks your immune system, and 1 was sick for a month and a half before the supercross season. No medicine would fix it, but now 1 have it under control. I might never get rid of it because it's a virus and all, so I just have to keep it to where it's on the negative side and not working against me all the time. Blimpie Suzuki's Danny Smith tried his best to keep Stewart honest in the first moto. After starting behind teammate Antunez, Smith tried to stay with Stewart to no avail. But the winner of last week's Southwick
