ing lap in 15th place before charging through the pack to eventually finish fifth, just behind Ferry. Planet Honda/Reynard Modifications' Robbie Reynard finished sixth overall with 7 -7 scores, followed by Tortelli, who went 6-8 for seventh overall. Mach 1 Motorsports' Heath Voss was eighth overall at 9-10, and Crossroad Powersports Damien Plotts was ninth with a 12-9 tally. ECC Suzuki's Michael Brandes rounded out the top 10 overall with his 10-14 ride. Carmichael goes into the next round at Red Bud with a perfect score of 250 points, already over a full race ahead of second-placed Ferry, who has 196. Tortelli is third with 181 points, followed by Lusk with 176. "It's going to be easy to stay motivated for Red Bud, because I've never really done good there," Carmichael said. "I got lucky last year, with some malfunctions that Sebastien and Windham had. I think Sebastien's going to be riding really good. Just going by the previous two years, he's pretty much handed us a good buttkicking. I think I've got something for him this year. My bike is really fast, and we're on level playing ground."_ (Han); 7. Rabble Reynard (Han); 8. John Dowd (Hon); 9. Heeth Voss (Hon); 10. Michele! Brandes (Suz); 11. Paul Carpenter (Hon); 12. The Chevy Trucks Kawasaki rider went to Maryland with his family and got to ride his dirt bike. Stewart entered the Budds Creek 125cc National and led every inch of both motos, blazing to huge leads each time. The 16-year-old was so fast and fluid on Sunday that he barely broke a sweat - he didn't even get his brilliant yellow riding gear dirty! And when the day was over, he went home with the 125cc points lead. "I'm not even winded - I could go another moto right now!" Stewart said through his braces after winning the second moto by more than half a J minute. No wonder: He holeshot both motos and was barely challenged, opening mind-boggling leads of more than 10 seconds in the first full lap of each moto. It was one of the most dominating performances in recent 125cc National history, and it clearly gave the momentum in the series to Stewart. "I didn't crash all day, I didn't crash yesterday, got both holeshots, my bike didn't break.... I can't think of anything else! It was just a great weekend for me," Stewart said after his one-man demolition of the 125cc class was over. "The first couple of laps in each moto, I just put my head down and kept charging. I was turning 2:20 lap times almost the whole way, so my pace and my strength are both right there. I can't wait to race again!" Boost Mobile/Yamaha/Troy Racing's Chad Reed, less-than-l00 percent, finished second overall via 2-4 rides. Blimpie Suzuki's Branden Jesseman continued to impress with his solid riding, rounding out the podium with a 5-2 score after coming through the pack each time. Team Honda's Emesto Fonseca was fourth overall with 7-3 rides, while a surprising Brock Sellards rounded out the top five overall in his return to racing, with a 3-7 tally in front of more than 17,000 fans. The Budds Creek victory marked Stewart's third overall win in five rounds. He also has won a total of six motos so far. "Those were a couple of freak accidents," Stewart said of the breakdowns. "I got hit on the start at High Point, and my radiator busted; at Southwick, one of my cylinder bolts broke. It wasn't like my bike was just seizing. It was bad luck, that's all, and 1 still have confidence in my bike and my team and my mechanic [Jeremy Albrecht]. Hopefully, the good luck will keep coming my way." n e _ 55 • JUNE 26, 2002 13
