Reid Rides East Bend
R.sults
By MARK NEQENS
EAST BEND, NC, MAY 18
In AMA District 29 racing action, Jeremy Reid
had a great ride at East Bend Speedway. even
though he was the only one in the 85cc
(14-15) and the Supermini classes. Reid battled for position with Tray Dobson, who was
contesting the 85cc (12-13) class. Reid
showed Dobson his front tire several times.
but on the third lap he found a good line and
came under Dobson. Meanwhile, in front of
them was 85cc (12-13) rider Christopher
Beasley, who took the holeshot and led the
whole race.
In the second moto, Beasley took the
holeshot, but Reid was close behind. Reid was
not going to let Beasley have it this time.
When they were getting close to the finish line,
Reid made his move and took the lead and
held it for the rest of the race.
In the 65cc classes, Chase Everhart (in the
7-9 class) and Kevin McMullan (in the 10-11)
class, battled for position, even though they
were in different classes. Everhart took the

point position in the first moto, and McMullan
took that position in the second moto. Following McMullan in the 65cc (10-11) class were
William Wenk in second and Dylan Gunter in
third. Following Everhart in the 7-9 portion
were Gary Christian in second and Codey
Kosut in third.
In the Over 30 A class, Russ Pickett and
Andy Mitchell had a time gelling around
250cc C rider Robby Ward, who took the
holeshot and held off Pickett, with Mitchell in
third. Pickett was looking for an opening to go
past Ward but couldn't find a good place to
pass. Pickett kept showing Ward his front
wheel, while Mitchell was showing his wheel to
Pickett, but when the first moto was over,
Ward had taken the checkered flag, with Pickett second and Mitchell taking the next spot.
In the second moto, Ward took his Honda
four-stroke to the holeshot and left Pickett
wishing he had his four-stroke. Pickell
changed to a Suzuki RM250 this year from a
YZ426F. However, Pickett was close behind
Ward and was determined to take over the
lead. Mitchell had different plans; he made the
pass on Pickett on the second lap and set his
sights on Ward. Mitchell stayed close to Ward,
and at the first opportunity he made the pass.
Shortly after that, Pickett also made the pass
on Ward. Mitchell took the top spot to take
first overall in the Over 30 A class, with
Pickett taking second. Ward placed first in
the 250cc C class, with David Growe taking
second.

By SAM HAulERT
CASTLE ROCK, WA, MAY 18
In the Open Money main event at the Castle
Rock Fairgrounds in Washington, former Castle Rock TT Hot Shoe winner Jeff Annen
pulled off the holeshot. followed by Jethro and
Sam Halbert. Jethro was all over Annen, and
on the second lap Jethro got a good drive off
of turn four, which leads down the straightaway, and he had a wheel underneath Annen
and just left it on longer coming into tum one,
making the pass. By the end of the race,
Jethro had a few bike lengths over Annen,
who was followed by Sam in third. Jerry
Southworth and Kyle Ragsdale rounded out
the top five.
In the Pro Sport/Expert class, Jethro got
the holeshot and ran away with a very healthy
lead over Ragsdale.
In the Open Motorcycle main event, Sam
golthe holeshot, ahead of Derrick Oquist, and
ran away with the win.
Sam also decimated the field in the 250cc
class, ahead of Chris Celorie and Elliot Oquist.
In the Over 40 class, Allen Morinville had a
great battle with Vince Holt and Steve Power.
Morinville took the win; Holt couldn't get the
job done and took second, with Power hot on
his heels.
Evan Aronson and Brad Baker battied all
night long in the 60/80cc DTX main and the
85cc Modified main. Aronson pulled through
with a win in the 85cc Modified main, but

Hidden Valley MX: Sean Hackley Jr.
relaxes in his pit after dominating
the 85cc (12-13) Stock class in
Covington, Tennessee.
By STEPHANIE WEST
COVINGTON, TN, MAY 18-19
Sean Hackley Jr. and Clark Stiles dominated
their classes at the Loretta Lynn's qualifier in
Covington, Tennessee. The weekend began
with a practice day being canceled as a result
of rain. The rain moved out Saturday morning.
leaving a muddy track for racing, but with the
wind blowing and motos running, it didn't take
long to dry the track out for the Stock-class
qualifiers.
Most impressive on Saturday was the 8xc
(12-13) Stock class, led by Kawasaki jockey
Sean Hackley out of Ovilla, Texas. Hackley
swept the competition, claiming both moto
wins. This was Hackley's first time to race at
Hidden Valley. When asked about the conditions of the track after all the rain, he said,
• .. .it was a little muddy this morning, but it's
turning out good now,"
Sunday proved to be an even better day
of racing· as regards weather and motos.
The highlight of the Modified and Pro Sport
races was Clark Stiles of Athens, Alabama.
Stiles raced in the 125cc and 250cc Pro Sport
classes.
In the first 125cc moto, Stiles got the
holeshot on his Yamaha and led all seven
laps without any threat of competition. The
second moto proved to be just as easy for
Stiles to iead.
Stiles also won both 250cc motos, but not
quite as easily. In the first moto, Stiles got the
holeshot again, but this time on his Honda. He
was followed closely by Suzuki jockey Nick
Metcalf from Ulysses, Kansas. Stiles led all
seven laps of mota number one, but Metcalf
was close in second, forcing Stiles to run a
consistent, flawless race. In the second moto,
Stiles went down in a first-tum pile-up, giving
the holeshotto Metcalf. Stiles jumped back in
the race, running fifth, but it didn't take him
long to breeze past his competitors. After the
second lap, Stiies had caught up to Metcalf,
who was leading the race. Stiles was riding
smart and fast and on the fifth lap he passed
Metcalf, taking the lead. Metcalf kept pushing
hard, but Stiles' CR450 took him to the
checkered flag.
Stiles had raced at Hidden Valley once
before. After the race, he was asked what he
thought about the progression of the track,
and he said the track looked really good, and
that it seemed as if they had put some sawdust on the track and it was getting pretty
rough toward the end of the weekend. According to most of the riders, that's the way they
wanted it! The weekend had started out questionable, due to weather conditions, but
it proved to be a very successful weekend
after all.
