Loretta Lynn's Qualifier Dutch Sport Park Rose Blooms at Dutch Qualifier By LARRY WITMER BLOOMINGDALE, MI, MAY 18-19 D erek Rose took his Jerry Growe's Honda/Hi Tech/MCR/HJC/Fast Times mount to the overall wins in the 250cc Pro Sport and $Extreme Money Moto contest, and placed runner-up in the 125cc Pro Sport division. Nick Adams rode his YZ to three class wins, but a crash prevented a clean sweep in his quest to land at the Loretta's regionals in the 125cc Youth Modified and Stock classes, as well as the 125cc B Stock and Modified divisions. There was a huge racer turnout, with 706 riders on Saturday and 734 on Sunday, which meant deep talent in every class. It also made for many racing motos, and the track got rough! The track crew did a great job keeping it in shape and watered. On Saturday night, Dutch Sport Park continued their family traditions as "The Amazing Zendor" performed his magic act for the kids. Dutch Sport Park has special nighttime events planned for kids throughout the year. In the first 250cc Pro Sport moto, the racers roared onto the start stretch, and Answer Racing/Torco Fuel/Pro Action Honda rider Kyle Bagladi took the holeshot. Derek Rose was close in second. Honda rider Kyle Garro was third. Going into the sand trap on the opening lap, Rose tried an inside line to overtake Bagladi, but the front end of the CRF450R slid out and down Rose went. Rose quickly remounted in 15th. Bagladi opened up a small lead on the remainder of the opening lap, but he also made a big mistake. "I had a great start and was lead· ing," Bagladi recounted. "I went into the switchback corner, as I've done many times before, but the front end washed out. I picked it back up quickly but remounted around 10th spot and had to push it hard." Garro took over the lead and held it throughout the moto. Garro extended his lead until Rose got into the runner· up slot, and then things got real dicey on the last lap. Both riders were gunning for the checkered flag on the last corner. Garro protected the inside line, while Rose took the wide line. Garro held tough, and Rose had· the momentum to take the win, but he took too much air time over the final jump, giving the win to Garro. "I had a great start and saw both Rose and Bagladi go down," Garro said. "I just tried to ride smooth and concentrate on my lines. I knew Rose was coming in the later stages. My Pro Circuit/DGY/Tichener CR held on for the win!" Rose ripped the second-moto holeshot and was challenged briefly for the lead by Brad Modjewski on the opening lap. "I saw a yellow front fender in a tight inside corner, and that was it," Rose said in Victory Lane. "I picked up the pace and showed the field my rear fender." The battle for third was intense, with Bagladi, Garro, John Penrod and Brad Smith exchanging paint and throwing roost at each other. John Penrod won the battle. "I had some really bad starts this weekend," Penrod admitted. "I had to use some outside lines to pass the field every moto. Dutch Sport Park has a great track and makes it so you can pass. I'm going to have to go back home and work on my starts. Much thanks to Nevin's Kawasaki, Pro Circuit, Troy Lee, Renthal, Scott USA, and my dad for their support!" Brad Modjew5ki took fifth overall, but he claimed victory in the 125cc Pro Sport division. "I had some great starts," Modjewski said, "but the first moto of the 250cc Pro Sport, I crashed and had to work back to the front. Second moto, I diced with Rose for the lead until I slid out on the second lap, but quickly remounted to hold down the runner-up slot. It felt good to win the 125cc Pro Sport. That gives me really good momentum into the Red Bud Regional in three weeks. Much thanks to my sponsors American Suzuki, Lake Co. Power Sports, Pro Action, and Fox USA. Great job [byJ the Dutch Sport Park crew!" The Youth Modified 125cc divisions were all Nick Adams'. "I like the track here at Dutch Sport Park," Adams enthused. "They do an excellent job. I like the soil here - not too much sand, and the jumps are cool! I clipped a tire in the Youth Mod moto and went down. That was my only big problem of the weekend. My goals are [toJ win at the regionals, and win both the Schoolboy divisions at Loretta's. I know I can, and have been training for that! Much thanks to Yamaha, FMF, Yamaha of Troy, No Fear, Spy, Maxima, and DC for being great sponsors." Jake Marsack played spoiler to Adams, winning the 125cc Youth Modified division. eN (Cob); 5.
