second and held that position into lap three, when he got stuck on the hill and handed second place to Caleb Reid. Dakota Flores started third but lost his position when Reid passed him on lap two, but he then regained the position when Solly got stuck. Brandon Glenn hunted Flores down on the final lap and passed him for third, followed by Flores and Solly. Jackson got the second-moto holeshot but miscued on the first lap and lost two positions, to Solly and Preston Primm. Glenn raced in fourth, followed by Reid and Flores. There were no further position changes. Jackson still took the overall win with his 1-3 tally, over Solly's 5-1 score for second and Glenn's 3-4 score for third. eN Oek Hill Motocross Perk Decetur, Teus Results: Mey 11, 2002 SI STK (4-6): I. Mutant Motorsports Spring Series Round 4: Hollister Hills &P Track Schmid Scores at Hollister Bv RANDV HElM HOWSTER, CA, MAY 12 ollister Hills was the place to be for the final round of Mutant Motorsports' Spring Series. With the state rangers having recently added sand to the track, the conditions were different from the "normal" Hollister. There were ruts and bumps throughout the course that you wouldn't normally see on the track. H 76 JUNE 19, 2002' cue • _ The 250cc Intermediate class was dominated by Honda rider Doug Schmid. In the first combined Pro/Intermediate moto, Pro rider Randy Norman, aboard a Yamaha, had the early lead, with Intermediate contestant Schmid shadowing in second. KTM-mounted Pro rider Brian Garrahan was a close third, and fourth was being held by J.R. Archutowsky, on a Honda. Schmid was all over Norman's rear fender, n __ s keeping the pressure on. Eventually the pressure worked, and Schmid was able to squeak by Norman when he bobbled slightly, losing momentum. Garrahan was still holding third comfortably_ Norman now became Schmid's shadow, and the race was on_ The two front-runners swapped paint for two laps before Norman forced his way by the hard-charging Intermediate. While first place was being fought over, Garrahan was slowly reeling in the leaders. Shortly after Norman got by Schmid, Garrahan knocked Schmid back one more spot and now focused on Norman. By the fifth lap, Garrahan was looking for a chance to take Norman. As they came down the hill leading into the long right-handed off-camber turn, their handlebars were almost locked. You couldn't fit a playing card between the two as they headed into the tum. Garrahan came out in front with one lap to go. Schmid, still in third, lost some of his steam and let the Pros battle it out for the number-one spot. On the last lap, Norman was all over Garrahan. Going into the wide left-hand sweeper, Garrahan went high. Norman tucked on the inside and went for the pass_ The riders unintentionally hit and Garrahan went down. Norman took the win, Schmid was second (and first Intermediate), and Garrahan remounted in time to finish third. KTM rider Brian Sperle finished fourth (and second Intermediate). The second moto was not as exciting, as Norman was absent from the line-up. The gate dropped and Schmid went out in front, with Garrahan in second and Sperle in third. Garrahan never made the pass on Schmid, and the top four remained the same throughout the moto. Schmid took the win, followed by Garrahan, Sperle and Craig Wesner. Schmid took the overall in the Intermediate ranks, and Garrahan rode away with the Pro overall. Schmid continued his win streak by chalking up a victory in the Dash For Cash. The Pros were unable to catch Schmid in the four-lap, staggered-start event. Schmid was all smiles as he collected some spending money for the weekend. Jim Zack was the winner in the popular 250cc Beginner class. The Yamaha-mounted Zack led the first moto from start to finish and led half of the second moto before being passed by Honda rider Tom Smith_ Second overall went to Smith, who finished fifth in the first moto and then came back to win the second. Third overall went to the consistent Yamaha rider Jeremy Weatherly (3-3). In Over 40 Beginner racing, KTM rider Scot Philip went 1-1 for the win. Second overall went to Yamaha rider Craig Heredia, via his 2-2 finishes_ Bringing home the bronze was Honda rider Gino Scolari, who posted solid 3-3 finishes. This week's Mini Dash For Cash went to Intermediate racer Luke Layton, who was aboard a Suzuki. Layton put on a hard charge from the second row and found himself in the lead by the end of the two laps. Along with the win, Layton took home some spending money. eN Hellister Hills 6P Treck Hellister, Cellfomie llaalts: Mey 12, 2002 (Raund 41 P/W: 1. Scott Creine (Vllm): 2. Brllndon DUlirte (Vern); 3.
