CMIC Harley-Davidson Nati nal Dirt Track Cha pionships Round 1: Hipp drome de Trois Rivieres Beaulac Shines, Beattie Wins Bv When the green light flashed, Beaulac, to thunderous approval, jumped into the lead. Beattie and Jeff Martorana, hooked up in tow. Springsteen took his XR up to the bales in fourth place and ran close to Martorana, but he could not manage a pass until the start of lap four, when he dropped down on to the blue groove. That same lap had seen Beattie's move to the front, and the order on lap five read Beattie, Beaulac, Springsteen and Martorana. Evans ran in fifth until lap eight, when he slid past Martorana and set off in pursuit of Springsteen. The riders remained in that order to the end of the contest. Evans closed on "Springer" but could not muster a pass. The 600cc Expert class was a Beaulac benefit, as the Daveyville, Province Quebec, native won the fast qualifier and led all but the first lap of the final. In the qualifier, Evans placed second and Pascal Picotte muscled a down-on-horsepower mount into third. Gartech Manufacturing's John Parker led the first two laps of the second qualifier but then fell victim to a charging Beattie, who went on to win, with Parker second FRANK WOOD TROIS RIV1ERES, QUEBEC, CANADA, MAY]] ominic Beaulac thrilled the partisan crowd at the Hippodrome with a win in the 600cc Expert class and a thrilling performance in the Open Expert final, placing second to Steve Beattie. Now riding for the Lancaster team in AMA Progressive Insurance competition, B~attie made one of his rare appearances in Canada. He followed Moto Max/Shoeii/IM Leathers/Bob Werbach/Racine Racing's Beaulac for the first three laps of the 12-lap feature final and then passed cleanly to lead to the flag. "When Steven got past me, I saw his line and it was much better, much faster," beamed the jubilant Beaulac after the race. CMRC number-one plate holder Chris Evans, on the American HarleyDavidson XR750, won the first Open qualifier, with Beattie second and Beaulac third. Jay Springsteen, in what has become his annual visit to Quebec, handily won his six-lap qualifying effort over Benoit Roulliard and Jeff Martorana. Those finishing positions established the front row for the National Championship final. D Monster Mountain MX Part<: Jase Lewis was the man at the Gatorade SupercrossIMotocross Challenge in Tallassee, Alabama. His two-day combined win total was six class vIctorIes. moto DNF left him in fourth overall for the day. He did, however, win the second moto with ease. Impressive rides were turned in by the younger Mini riders as well. Georgia's Taylor Johnson swept the Junior Mini class and the 65cc (10-]]) group, while KX-mounted Forrest Lane topped both 65cc (7-9) motos. Florida's D.J. Oakes pulled a double as well, topping the 50cc Oil-Injected class and the 50cc (4-6) class. The day's first Pro race was the combined ]25cc A and B contest. When the gate dropped, all hell broke loose, as several riders were in front at different times during the first lap. By lap two, the pack had sorted itself out, with Chad Albritton in the lead, followed by Florida's Jordan Peeples and B rider Cole Boutwell. A battle then ensued between Albritton and Peeples that carried them far out ahead of the pack. Albritton held on for the moto win, ahead of Peeples and Georgia's Michael Graham. Moto two began with a holeshot by Peeples, and the YZ-mounted speedster held on to the lead for the entire moto, winning ahead of Albritton and Graham. Albritton's ]-2 tally gave him the overall, with Peeples the runner-up. Graham finished third but came back to top the 250cc A class with ease. Boutwell came out on top of the B class at day's end after firstmoto winner, North Carolina's B.J. Huntsinger, crashed in race two. eN Monster Maunt8ln MX hrtc Tall_a, lIabama Results: May 5, ZOOZ 50 OIL-INJ: I. D.J. Ookes (Vom); 2. Potrick Lumpkin (Yam); 3. Blake Lawson (Yam); 4.
