Weogufka, Alabama's Corey Byrd put an exclamation point on his 85cc D series championship with a 1-1 sweep of the class. Christian Tramel got the holeshot on the downhill start in moto one, but Byrd had the lead coming out of the 180-degree righthand first tum. In only his third race, local rider David Moore challenged Tramel with two passes. Tramel regained second on the last lap with an inside pass. Byrd took a commanding win, and class contender Troy Balsters came through the 17-rider field for fourth. KX-mounted Tramel absconded with the holeshot in race two, but Byrd's outside gate pick gave him another lead coming out of tum one. Moore moved to second, then challenged Byrd for the lead. Balsters started seventh and placed third when Tramel overshot a berm. The duo placed second and third in the series, respectively. On the separate Pee Wee track, D.J. Oakes and Ben Lau ran up front in the first Unlimited moto before they both fell. Stephen Donaldson inherited the lead and stayed out front to the finish. Lau recovered for second, ahead of Mario F. Santucci. Oakes was perfect in race two, leading start to finish. Hjs 7-1 score was good for third overall. A 1-3 tally gave Donaldson second. Kennedy wouldn't let him get away; and when Young fell on the last lap, he bagged the win. Young remounted for second, ahead of Kiley. A red-flag restart didn't shake Kawasaki rider Tommy Paul in the first 125cc D moto. In his first race back since suffering a broken ankle, he pulled another holeshot and placed eighth in the 19-rider field. Ben Waldner took the moto win, ahead of fellow Yamaha rider Kyle Roark. In race two, Josh Landrie led the way, followed by Nick Porto. Waldner moved to second and then powered past Landrie on a long, rough straightaway. Behind Waldner and Porto in the overall scoring, fU'St-time 125cc rider James Devilbiss was third with a 4-3 tally. Boutwell steadily pulled away for the win. Link eventually got around Patterson for second. Clinton Arnold was fourth. Odom gave Boutwell a run for his money in moto two. He went under the YZ 125 rider in the first turn and stayed out front for two laps. Boutwell passed when Odom stalled his YZ250F and couldn't refire it.
