close behind. Tyee Hebner came through the pack to take third. Carter Fischer and Joseph Dugish rode one of the night's best races after John Frank fell out. Fischer and Dugish rode elbow to elbow, lap after lap, finishing almost alongside one another. Defending District 36 Vet A champion Robert McDonnell got the lead in the first tum, with Robert Bacosa, Shawn Raggio and the rest of the pack right behind him. By the fourtih lap, Bacosa and McDonnell had pulled away from the pack, and they rode the remainder of the race to the finish with less than a bike's length between them, crossing the line in that order. A relative newcomer to racing in District 36, Mike Perillo got the tallest brass in the Open C class, ahead of seven others. Harold Raggio took the checkers first in the Over 40/0ver 50 contest, with Mark Biscardi and Eric Tumer following. After winning the Vintage C class, Rick Vargas was on the track again to ride to another victory in the OldTimers Over 40 Vintage C class. Mike Riddle W!lS first in the B class, and Eric Weisler crossed the line first in the A class. The Open A contest was fast and furious, as usual, with CCM riding Tony Souza getting the lead off the line and riding a smooth race from pole to pole to finish first of 10. CN F. .t Fridays Speedway: Bobby Hedden (63) heated up the chilly air with some hot riding at Fast Fridays Speedway in Auburn, California. Patrick McNamara led the pack of four in the 60cc C class by a long way, with James Williams Jr. taking second. Michael Snedden got the holeshot in the Sportsman Modified 100cc race and finished first. Behind him, Craig "CD." Howell systematically got around each of the other four riders in front of him after getting off to a slow start. Howell finished second overall and first in the C class. Snedden was back again for another victory in the 100cc Stock Sportsman A class, while Thomas Terry took first in the C class. Ray Diaz got the holeshot in the Vet C class, with Michael Day and Alvin Webber lifted the front end slightly out of starting position two and ended up pushed wide as Hedden held the inside spot through the first turns. Three-time National Speedway Champion Mike Faria got a decent start from um four and briefly took over the bridesmaid spot, but his GM was slightly off the pace and Bast soon recovered to reclaim second. Once Hedden took the lead, he rode tight to the pole all the way to the checkered flag. Bast and Faria stayed close to Hedden the entire face but ultimately had to settle for second and third. Visiting So Cal rider Charles "Dukie" Ermolenko, who was otherwise quick all night and, along with Faria, was the only rider to transfer to both main events, rode his poor lane·three start to a fourtih-place fmish. In the Scratch consolation event, 1965 U.S. National Speedway Champion Alan "Crazy' Christian flashed some of the skills that made him one of the top speedway riders in America throughout the '60s, showing youngsters Bryan Varrow and Chris Kerr the number two on his back all the way to the fin· ish line. During the off season, the AMA decided that the Junior Speedway program must be renamed Vouth Speedway to be more in line with nomenclatures of other AMA motorcycle disciplines. In the first-division Youth final. visiting So Cal rider Justin Boyle went wide in tum four, took out half the field, and sent fellow Southern rider Ricky Wells straight into the tum-four plywood.
