Loretta Lynn's Qualifier Cedar Raceway Park Scott Shows Row By DICK GOODWIN CEDAR CITY, QT, APR. 13 amaha hotshoe Scott Howe showed how to win the 250cc B Stock division; by using a combination of fast and consistent racing to come out on top of the highly competitive class at the Loretta Lynn's qualifier in Cedar City, Utah. Howe hopped out in front of Corey Murphy and the rest of the field as the gate dropped for moto one. Bryan Watson and Eric Nye bellied up for a shot at the point, and Micky Griffin also joined the lead pack. Griffin was on fire, as he pushed, passed and elbowed his way up to Howe's rear fender. Howe and Griffin were pounding on. each other big-time, and their fierce duel was carrying them way out in front of the rest of the field. Finally, Griffin wiped out in a corner while passing for the lead, and that gave Howe the cushion he needed to cruise home with the win. Nye brought his Yamaha across in sec- Y ond, while Griffin recovered for third, ahead of a close battle between Matthew Beavers and Andrew Bakken for fourth. Nye edged out Griffin for the holeshot honors as round two commenced. Watson jumped right into second, as Howe joined the dogfight up front. When Nye bobbled and Howe also crashed back three spots, Griffin was left to lead the screaming pack. Howe got back on the gas and Beavers was also stepping it up as they bulled into first and second place by lap three. Beavers continued his charge, shooting into the lead on lap four. Howe stayed right with him, while Watson and Christensen were now in a dust-up for third. Howe chased Beavers all the way to the finish line, and his consistent finishes were enough to net him the overall 250cc B Stock crown. Beavers' inspired second-moto ride earned him second overall, ahead of Griffin, Nye and Christensen. Action in the 85cc Stock (7-11) class was not nearly as topsy-turvy as in the 250cc Stock contest, but there was nevertheless some awfully fast racing going on. Led by dominant dynamo Michael Hall, the little guys on big bikes were making a statement about talent and technique. Hall exploded out of the gate to lead Tanner Krahenbuhl and Chase Sims as the racing began. Sims made a quick pass as Jayme Salo moved into third, but Hall was already building a lead. Trevor Reis raised his intensity level up a notch, fighting all the way up to second by lap two. No one was catching Hall, however, as he romped home with the win. Reis claimed second, as Sims and Salo filled out the next two positions. Hall led the charge once again as the second stanza got under way. Sims and Reis were keeping him honest. Hall put the pedal to the metal and checked out but, when Salo jumped in between Sims and Reis, the wild fight for second was entertaiJ'lment at its best. At the white flag, Hall had a "lunch break" type of lead over Reis, who was running in his own ZIP code in second place. Southeastern Motocross Series Round 7: County Une MX Romans, Tramel Makin' County Line Victories By HUGH GATLIN FOQNTAIN, FL, APR. 7 anadian 125cc East National Champion Simon Homans and Montgomery, Alabama's Christian Tramel were winners at County Line MX. Yamaha of Canada/FMF/Oakley's Homan outdistanced the local Pros on his way to 1-1 finishes in the 250cc and 125cc Money classes. Fellow Canadian Pierre Marc Gagne, aided by Harricana Adventure, topped the 250cc B class. Fain's Department of Exterior-assisted Tramel scored his first win of the series with a sweep of the 80cc D class and drew closer to absent points leader Corey Byrd in the title chase. Homans got the holeshot in the first 250cc Money IB moto, ahead of Karl Scott and Lee Spann. Scott went wide in a turn and Spann grabbed second. Hall pocketed his second win and, with it, the 85cc Stock (7-11) championship. Reis pulled down a well-deserved second, leading Sims, Salo and Goodwin in the final results. eN cue I e made contact with Spann in the stadium section, causing the Honda rider to step off his machine. Young could advance no further, as Homans was well out front. Scott placed third, ahead of Spann and Gagne. Homans was fast and smooth in moto two and led from wire to wire. Young passed Spann for second. All riders were spaced out at the end, with Scott placing fourth. Young and Scott gave Homans a tougher time in the 125cc MoneylB class. Scott led race one, but Homans quickly passed up the elevator jump. Young also went by and began to pressure Homans; he matched Homan's pace in the whoop section but slowly lost ground to the leader. Homans won by five seconds. Cole Boutwell, the lead B rider, caught Scott and made an inside pass for third just before the off-camber section.
