AMP/SFI Spring Series Roun 2: Prairie City AMP Nati al Track Pnlirie City AMP Nmon.1 rnlck bacbo Conlon, c.liforui. Results: April 7, ZDDZ [Round Zl Yorks Pop the Corks BY JIM AND JUSTIN ENOS --- RANCHO CORDOVA, CA, APR. 7 awasaki pilot Trevor York savored the taste of victory after dominating the 60cc Beginner class with back-to-back moto wins at round two of the AMP/GFI Spring Series, sponsored by Swift Auto World. The native of Reno, Nevada, gated among the 18-rider field and, despite going without a holeshot on the day, he made his way to the front in a hurry and never looked back, winning by huge margins in both motos. It was another huge turnout as nearly 600 riders took to the AMP National Track at Prairie City and enjoyed the always-challenging track layout. With its long uphills and steep downhills, the AMP-prepped track was still friendly enough for the little guys, as even the fearless 60cc Beginners were able to do the entire track. In moto one, KTM-mounted Kyle Freitas grabbed the early lead, followed by Blake Ballard, Brian Alquist, Jeremy Stommel and York. Within half a lap, York blew by the pack to take the lead, leaving the racing for position behind him. While York motored on, things changed quickly behind him, as Alquist took over second, followed closely by Trevor Allred and Aaron Williams. That trio stayed tight all the way to the checkers, and while York took a huge win, Alquist, Allred and Williams followed up just wheels apart. Freitas rounded out the top five. Freitas once again made it to the first turn first in moto two, with Alquist and Allred in tow. York lurked K I close behind and again forged his way to the front, but not without a brief challenge from Alquist, who held him off for two laps. However, once by, York again turned up the heat and left the field behind, eventually taking another uncontested win. Alquist followed up second overall on the day after posting a strong 2-2 score. Williams improved over his first-moto outing, taking a third and third overall on the day, while Allred snagged the fourth spot on the day, followed by Freitas, who went 5-5 for fifth on the day. It was another York who took the 60cc Open-class win on the day, as Trevor's brother Tyler York traded wins with Ruben Hernandez. York went down early in the first moto, and Hernandez won big. York rebounded strongly to take second, and the effort paid off, as he came out strong in moto two with a hard-fought wireto-wire victory over Hernandez, and the overall win. The two battled all moto long, and Hernandez just couldn't make a move on York, finishing close behind at the checkers. Dylan Lane turned in a consistent 3-3 score for third on the day, followed by Drew Thomas (4-4) and Alquist (5-5). Joel Fittro bested the 60cc Novice class with a 1-1 tally over Tyler Ash. Fittro got the holeshot in both motos and led from start to finish, never allowing Ash an opportunity to challenge. Ash finished up with a 2-2 score on the day, ahead of Lane, who duplicated his 3-3 60cc Open-class score. Charlie Moore (5-4) and Thomas (4-5) rounded out the top five. eN Pee Wee Track 50 (4·60 P/W JR: I. Niko Ambriz (Yom); 2. Derick Silv8 (Yam); 3. Travis Nealon (Yem); 4. Tyler Kosman (Vern); 5. OBER FLORESVlllE,TX, APR. 7 ound one of the So Be Texas Championship Summer Series went off with a bang as more than 380 racers came to the Cycle Ranch MX Park to battle it out for points and trophies_ Due to bad weather the previous day, many riders thought that the race would be canceled and jU5t stayed home. Although it was raining early Sunday morning, the inclement weather had little or no effect on the track's condition - aside from making it perfect. The sun came out at lunchtime and turned the surface to crunchy loam, giving racers excellent traction and a beautiful afternoon for racing. The series will have five more rounds at various Texas tracks including San Jacinto MX, Mosier Valley, Highlands MX and Village Creek MX Park.
