More than 400 riders lined up at the starting gates of Budds Creek Motocross Park to take on a 7 -mile track that included the national-caliber motocross track, a dirt-track oval, and miles of wide-open woods trails. The Blue-Grey is one of the series' most popular races, but the big crowds created interesting traffic issues on the course for the faster riders. Cycleworld/O'NeaI/SoCal-backed Suzuki rider Travis Williford worked his way up from a dead-last start to battle with Bruce's Suspension-sponsored KTM rider Chris Taylor for the lead. On the last lap, Taylor passed Williford right within sight of the scoring tent to take the win. Williford came in right on his rear fender for second place. Motorcycle Factory Inc.-sponsored Honda rider Matthew Louderback came in a minute behind Williford to take third. The forecast for the 2002 Senior A class is fast racing and tight competition throughout the season, as was proved at this particular race. Motor Imports Kawasaki rider Daniel Morrison shot out of the gates ahead of the pack. Mcintire Construction-backed Yamaha rider Mike Mcintire was the first to dive into the woods, but he nailed something on the trail. Morrison got by to take a first-lap lead, with Mcintire and Cycle Connection KTM rider Darryl Campbell right behind him. During the second lap, Mcintire and Campbell got by Morrison. Mcintire and Campbell battled on the motocross track, with Mcintire taking the lead, staying just seconds ahead of Campbell. Then Campbell pulled up beside Mcintire on the dirt oval but had to close in on his rear fender going back into the woods. Mcintire took the win, with Campbell right behind him for second. Morrison took third at the finish. The Mini/Masters/Women's event had just under a hundred riders lined up at the gates to race a 3.5-mile version of the main course. Cycle Junction/Alpinestars/Motorider.combacked Kawasaki rider Preston Blake took the Mini A win and the overall win.
