The race for second was a battle royal, as Finn and Kraft went to wer to see which rid~ would take the runner-up spot. Kraft appeared to have the upper hand in the rougher sandy section out back, while Ann was faster up top on the hard-packed section. These two riders swapped positions on nearly every lap, with Finn holding off a last-lap charge by Kraft to take second place in mote two as well as secMoreland's Motocross Bradburn Bullies 'em at Moreland's Spring Fling ond overall. Kraft settled for third, with Meye~ topping Kill in the race for the to remaining spots in the top five. Moreland's Motocross was in tiptop shape for the Spring Fling, with several new twists to the grand old girl of District 14 - twists that were both welcomed and enjoyed by riders young and old alike. Results By BART NEWMAN Thunder Cross Motorsports Part<: Joel Nicholson (11) edges out Danny Baxley (14) for the second-moto holeshot in the combined Gran Prix Two 25Occl500cc AlBIC contest at round five of the Metro Racing Florida Vintage Series in Okeechobee, STANTON, MI, APR. 6 Moreland's Motocross welcomed nearly 500 riders to stop four of the Michigan District 14 Spring Fling tour, which offers riders a chance at factory contingencies from Honda, Kawasaki, Husqvarna and Suzuki. Justin Bradburn proved to be top dog in the 85cc Beginner class, topping all competitors by pushing his RM80 to double-moto wins and the day's overall. When the 39 85cc Beginners came around tum one, Blake ThorJand was out front, with Chad Hurren, Dustin Finn, Lance Kill and Bradburn hot on his heels. Thorland's lead lasted less than a lap, as a trip to the ground negated his great start and opened up the door for Hurren to take the lead - momentariwas charging. Antoon lost touch with the leaders shortly after when he took a spill. This left three riders battling for the lead. Brantley picked off Graves for second and then Kretschmer for the lead. Kretschmer was not giVing up and he stayed close, as Graves slowly dropped back. Brantley won, over Kretschmer. Graves took third place. Danys charged through the pack and passed Morgan for fifth and then soon caught the fading Antoon. Danys got fourth place when it was all over. next comer and got the lead going into the pit. The two pulled out from the rest of the field. Nicholson let it all hang out on the back straight and retook the lead. Baxley was not giving up, though, and he surged forward into the lead_ making Nicholson wonder a little. In the end, Nicholson got the win in the A class and Baxley got the B-class win. Hodge worked up from a sixth-place start to take second in the A class, over Brantley. Brantley won the first moto of the combined Vintage 250cc/500cc A/B/C classes. Woody Graves and Rick Danys followed Brantley in the A/B class. Fourth-round winner J_P. Antoon had some problems and finished fourth, and usual front-runner Matt Kretschmer only finished fifth. Kirk Morgan won the first C-class moto, over Kim Ross. In the second moto, Graves took his Bultaco to the front. Kretschmer was back up to speed and took the lead on the first lap.
