Alabama's Zack Rossetti won the first race with ease, as Weatherup and Duncan could only manage fourth and fifth, respectively. The pair did come back in moto two with a vengeance, taking the top two spots, but Rossetti's 1-3 gave him the overall, ahead of Weatherup and Duncan, with Mills in fourth place. Georgia's Matthew McGraw took top honors in the Schoolboy class. The rain-shortened program provided for only one moto in the 125cc AlB combined contest. Florida's Jordan Peeples came out on top, ahead of Lusk and Alabama's Josh Thompson. Askew again topped the B class. In the 250cc AlB contest, Lusk topped the A class and Askew was again out front in the B ranks. An additional highlight of the weekend's program was the appearance of two of the nation's fastest lady riders, Leah Cantrell and Jessica Patterson. Cantrell easily topped the Women's 85cc class and Patterson backed up her Women's 105cc & Up win with a strong second-place finish in the 16-24 class on Saturday. CN 16-24: 1. Jonethan West (Suz); 2. However, while new competitors have been entering T n ... s Big Buck GNCC: Andy Shea won the very competitive 250cc A class at the fourth round of the AMA Grand National Cross Country Series in Cross Anchor, South Carolina. the fray every week, one rider was expected to do well right from that start. and at round four of the series the Big Buck GNCC in Cross Anchor, South Carolina - he did just that. "I got a pretty good start," said Hamilton, Ohio's Andy Shea. "I got into the lead in the third tum and just got away from those guys." Shea then poured on the speed on his KTM 250 and never looked back, eventually taking the class win three hours later with about two minutes to spare on his closest rival, Tennessee's P.A. Allen. Allen is one of the new challengers in the 250cc A ranks, as the SETRA rider finished fourth at the series opener in Florida and missed the second round in Georgia before ridjng to a dominant win at round three in North Carolina. At that race, Shea busted a clutch perch, but he was back to duke it out with Allen in South Carolina. Unfortunately, the start decided the fate of the two riders, as Shea battled for the holeshot with Ricky McAtee and Aaron Branham, while Allen suffered through a tough first lap and came around in 13th. "They had us start behind the 200cc A class," said Shea, "so I just picked off as many of those guys as I could, and then I started working through the Pros." By the finish, Shea had collected 13th overall, first among GNCC Amateurs, while Allen crossed the line in 17th after putting on a phenomenal charge and wrestling the runner-up spot from Suzuki-mounted John Barber, who ended up 18th overall. These riders were among the nearly 1000 entrants on hand at the Big Buck, divided among Pro, Amateur, Minicycle and A TV classes. The Big Buck course, designed by former AMA National Enduro Champion Jeff Russell, featured tight woods and several mudholes to slow the racers down, and it got plenty rough by the end of the day. "It was a tough track," sajd Shea, "but I liked it. It was fun." Both Shea and Allen are left to play catch-up in the GNCC point standings, though, as the consistent Ryan Rodgers, a Kawasaki rider out of Pennsylvania who finished fourth at the Big Buck, leads the 250cc A standings with 72 points, while Team Green's Chris Gallt lies second with 68 points. Shea is third with 62, and Allen is fourth with 56 points. The next-fastest class at the Big Buck was the Vet A class, which featured a great duel between New York's Dennis Decker and South Carolina local Jan Hrehor. Hrehor suffered a bad start and had to work his way up, while Decker battled past Jeffery Hursh to take the lead. Hrehor put in a solid charge to close the gap, but he was unable to get the lead from Decker. The two finjshed 21st and 22nd overall. In the GNCC Youth classes, Cody Calkins, the younger brother of GNCC Pro rider Cole Calkins, took the overall win and first in the Mirti Senior class. "I felt real comfortable on the bike today," said Calkins, who took the early lead and pulled away from his competitors. Second overall on the day was Adam Giddjngs, who topped the Mirti Intermediate class. KaUub Russell won the Mini Junior class on his Suzuki, while Cory Buttrick continued an impressive undefeated streak in the Mini 65cc class with a win there.
