Pacific Coast Pro-Am C'ship Series Rou d4: Club Mota Chandler Takes 5 BY @TOVOTA AlIA A::DUNLDP rllldij~ ?'" SImply'''' "..,for your bUte. *VAMAHA • I MIKE VANCIL UVERMORE, CA, MAR. 30 rafton Chandler and his fourstroke Yamaha went three-forthree at round four of the Pacific Coast Pro-Am Championship Series at the rain-postponed event originally scheduled for Hollister, California. Chandler was entered in three classes, and he raced five motos without a single mistake - quite an accomplishment on such a demanding motocross facility as the hilly Club Moto course. Of all the Northern California courses, this facility, without a doubt, provides the toughest challenge to a rider's ability and suspension tuning. In his first outing of the day, Chandler thought he had an ideal situation, as the only other competitor in the 125cc Intermediate class withdrew due to mechanical reasons - but then he realized that, as the lone Intermediate, he couldn't trophy unless he beat all the hungry, eager Novice riders with whom he shared the starting gate. He was pushed most seriously by Joel Anderson, also Yamahamounted, in the first moto. There was no respite for Chandler in the second moto, either, as Anderson - who experienced difficulties - was replaced by Anthony Maniglia, also Yamaha-mounted, and who with super-extra effort ended up with a first-place overall of his own in the 125cc Novice class by virtue of a 4-1 day. The less-fortunate Anderson ended up sore and with sixth place overall. Chandler's success set the tone for the remainder of the day. In his next appearance, Chandler contested the 250cc Intermediate class, and he shared the starting line with three other like-classed riders, as well as two Beginners and six Novice riders. In the first moto, Chandler cooled it a little; he didn't seem to want to hang it out early. By halfway through the first lap, he did gas it up and got by early leader Jeff Marsh, who had his Honda in the point. For the remainder of the moto, Chandler went unchallenged; Marsh followed him to the line, with Justin Sanders, on another Honda, in third, and Phil Segundo in fourth on a Yamaha. In moto two, Chandler led early and held it all the way to the checkers, chased this time by Sanders in second and Marsh in third. Two classes down, four motos raced, four wins recorded. The Pro-Am moto in this series is a one-moto affair, and riders better come to the line prepared to go all out; that is the allure of this format. .. .. .. .. M a u u u T !J!!!!!ki!
