More exciting moments occurred in
the Open A event. Matt Proto and
John Hlebo worked hard turn after
turn around the track, with Hlebo right
on Proto's tail from start to finish.
The Pro-Am was another match of
courage and skill. Jimmy Sanchez
and Tony Souza came into the tree
turn in that order, but they switched
positions around two or three times
en route to the finish. Souza ended up
in front.
In Sunday's short track, the aocc
A race was an edge-of-your-seat
event. Bobby Fang got the holeshot,
followed by Stevie Bonsey and
Bobby's brother Anthony Fang.
Bobby held the lead for six laps, while
Bonsey waited patiently for the
opportunity of an error on the
leader's part while working hard all
the while to get around him. A singleme restart after a crash gave Bonsey
the chance he was looking for, and
he got past Fang. The race finished
with Bonsey in front of the Fang
brothers.
A fun race to watch was the
Women's 100cc C class, with three
very competitive women ready to
battle. Dawn Webber was last to the
first corner and after getting a slow
start, she came from behind, crouching over the tank to finish first, side
by side with Pamela Case. This victory was the closest of the day.
One of the day's best races was
the Vet A contest. Going into turn one
were Mark Biscardi, Bob Grant and

he famous Lodi Cycle Bowl in
California opened its racing season in District 36 with a Saturday
night TT and a short track on Sunday. Some of the riders at this weekend's event included a handful of
AMA National numbers such as Lonnie Pauli, Aaron Creamer, Tony
Souza and John Hlebo.
Saturday's TT racing started with
the Pee Wee riders on the track, and
little Michael Martin took first in the
Pee Wee Stock A, Pee Wee Senior A
and 65cc C classes. Chad Cose and
D.J. Sharkey worked the track hard,
taking first in the 65cc A and B classes, respectively.
Michael Snedden took home two
tall trophies after winning both the
100cc Stock and 1OOcc Modified B
classes. CD. Howell was first in the
100cc Modified C class, and Stephen
Sikorski crossed the line first in the
100cc Mini Stock class.
Norman Cose (Chad's dad) was
first in the Vet C class, in front of
Michael Thrash of Portland, Oregon,
while Colin MacDonald was the winner in the Vet B class. John Proto
took home the top brass in the Vintage Twin A class, in front of Lodi's
own Eric Weisler. Mark Biscardi had a
good ride, winning the Vet Senior
class, and he held the lead in the Vet
A race, in front of Robert McDonnell,
Bob Bacosa and four other riders,
until the last lap, when he hit a neutral
and McDonnell got by him for the win.

China/O'Neal-backed Robert Bacosa.
Coming around again, it was Grant,
Biscardi and Robert McDonnell. By
the next lap, McDonnell had captured
second and Bacosa was working his
way up from fifth, using both the high
and low lines. Mc Donnell and Grant
battled for first, while Bacosa captured third and was gaining ground.
On the last lap, Bacosa, using the
high line, went around both McDonnell and Grant to take the lead.
Biscardi got by Gran" and the race
finished as Bacosa, McDonnell and
Biscardi.
The Open A event was also exciting from start to finish. Lonnie Pauli
was first to the corner, with Mark
Corsetti, Bobby Casey and Stewart
Barber riding three across behind
him. Coming around the second time,
Pauli was leading, with Corsetti and
Casey in fierce competition for the
second spot. Corsetti took second
and caught Pauli, and tum after turn
they battled for first, with Corsetti on
the outside and Pauli on the inside.
The final order was Pauli, Corsetti
and Casey.
The Pro-Am event finished with
the first three riders aboard CCM
bikes. Motorcyclist Post's Aaron
Creamer of Massachusetts was first,
followed by Tony Souza. Matt Proto of
Performance Cycles took third place,
and Malott's Yamaha Honda/Sierra
Water/Union 76-backed, 15-year-old
Nick Moore, in his second season
as a Pro racer and riding for A&A
Racing, finished fourth aboard the
new Honda 450 in this field of seven
riders.
