picked off Traver and then King for third. Meanwhile, Saul and Sherohman were riding bar to bar. Saul finally got by Sherohman for the lead. The long moto allowed some people who didn't get good starts to make their way through the pack. Samudio got pushed back to seventh, but he started to charge hard and on the second-to-Iast lap Samudio and YZ426F rider Jeff Roehm made their way by Traver and King to take over fourth and fifth. At the checkers, it was Saul, Sherohman, Feeney, Samudio and Roehm. In moto two, Roehm and Rolling Rock Distributors-backed YZ250 rider Chris Cumbo went around the first corner bar to bar. Eric Barr, Clint Miller and John Pindard rounded out the top five. It didn't take Saul long to motor his way past eight riders in two laps to work his way into second place. Barr moved into third when he outjumped Cumbo. Dicing for the lead, Roehm and Saul pulled a fivesecond lead on the rest of the pack. After a three-lap battle, Roehm settled comfortably into the lead with a three-second cushion. Feeney pushed through the pack into third. As the laps were winding down, so was Saul: With two laps to go, Feeney passed Saul for second. All Saul had to do was hold on to third, and he would take the overall. Sherohman finally made it through traffic; Saul tried to hold him off, but Sherohman pushed Saul back to fourth. Roehm took the win, followed by Feeney and Sherohman. Saul and Barr completed the top five. The overall on the day went to Feeney (3-2). Sherohman (2-3) finished second, and Saul (1-4) finished third on the day. Roehm (5-1) and Samudio (4-6) earned fourth and fifth overall. Results BEG A: I. Randal Sialll.naj 2. Timothy Wuerfel: 3. RUm!1I Bucco- la; 4. Russ Cronin; 5. TIm Lyons. BEG B: 1. Phil Currll!j 2. Kunkel the New Kid in Town For the second race in a row, the new kid in town, D.J. Kunkel, mowed over the competition. Kunkel recently moved from the Midwest By TERRY CORDRAY FORT WORTH, TX, MAR. 16 Central Yamaha owner Dave Walters made the trip from Plano, Texas, for round two of the Central Yamaha SX Series. He was treated to a 17-moto, 22g-rider event. It was a good thing he brought plenty of gift certificates. A field of 20 125cc Beginners made an immediate assault on the winner certificates. Yamaha riders finished one-two in the overall results, taking $25 and $ 15 gift certificates, respectively. MesqUite's Willie Ray took the top spot and the series lead with a 1-1 perfor- mance. Mike Lovren of Allen was second. Suzuki-mounted Deegan Bass was sixth on the night, but he earned 15 points to put him third in the series' overall standings with 36 points. The Central Yamaha Stock-Shaft class was guaranteed to hit Mr. Walters in the pocketbook. It was a wild affair, as first-moto winner Rick Kosters had troubles in the second moto and went 1-5. Ronnie Guest won the second and has adapted well to the Florida sand. Kunkel took double-moto wins in the 125cc Advanced and 16-24 classes at round six of the fourth annual Dealer Support Series. Kunkel led the first combined moto of the 125cc Advanced and Intermediate classes. Following Kunkel were Chris Belcher, Lee Mcilvaine, Michael Mastalerz and Kris Clark. Kunkel slowly pulled out for the moto win. Mastalerz moved up from fourth to second. Clark followed and finished in the third spot. Finishing fourth in the field and first in the Intermediate ciass was Raymond Whitley, followed by Aaron Cone. The second moto was all Kunkel's, once again from start to finish. Starting second was Mastalerz, who tried to keep up with Kunkel's pace but finished second again. Clark started fifth and made his way around the Intermediate riders to finish third. Belcher had a better outing this time, finishing fourth and the first intermediate rider. Mcilvaine started third once going 2-3. Davis moved into the series lead again but only faded to fifth. Kunkel swept the 16-24 class, as Mastalerz gave chase in second both motos. Clark followed the two home in third both times out, as he had in the 125cc Advanced class. Whitiey came in fourth in both motos, and Adam Wellman rounded out the top five. Shawn McKenna led the first 250cc Intermediate moto out of the gate. Tom Hender- with 50 points after two events. McKenna won the moto, and Bernie Perrone rounded out the top five. McKenna pulled the holeshot in moto two and ran away with the win. The battle was again for the second position. Henderson started second again and did not fade as he had in the first moto. Schormann was right there, hounding Henderson for second. By the halfway mark, Schormann found a way around. Henderson kept third. Dineen had nothing for the two and kept fourth from the very start. Perrone moved to fifth place by the checkered fiag. In the biggest class of the day, 80cc Begin- ner, Augie Paxia took his Daytona Fun Machine Kawasaki to the first-moto win. It was a hard-fought battle over second-place finisher Joe Defrancisco; these two battle week after week. Running third was John Alexander, Rounding out the top five was Cody Smith. Tawney Still Perfect By TERRY CORDRAY FORT WORTH, TX, MAR. 22 Village Creek moved its night races to Friday night on March 22 to create a tripleheader weekend at the Fort Worth, Texas, facility. The track hosted AMA Loretta Lynn's Qualifiers on its day course on Saturday and Sunday, March 23 and 24. Many riders who were present to qualify for the Loretta Lynn's Ama- teur National program took advantage of the scheduling to get in some extra track time by competing in the Friday night races. Donnie McGourty of Brooksville, Florida, won the Pro race. Tyler Stewart from West Monroe, Louisiana, found the local competition to be tough - he was forth in the 60cc (7-9) race.
