wicz rounded out the top three in the moto, picking up second overall on the day and third place in the final series standings. Matt Mabry proved that consistency pays off, as he picked up third overall for the day in the Over 25 Novice class, behind David Kocich and Chris Marshall, who traded moto wins. Kocich picked up the overall ahead of Marshall, but Mabry took home the number-one plate. Mabry attended more rounds than the other two and moved past them in series points to wrap up the title. eN 290 MX Park Waller, Texas Results: March 3, 2002 [Round 71 290 MX Park: Things could not have gone better for Bradley Mikolas at the seventh round of the STC Pro Circuit Winter Series in Waller, Texas. He took first overall in the 125cc Intermediate and 125cc Open classes and wrapped up both series titles. several classes were still undecided and too close to call. With so much on the line, the racing had an added element of excitement to it. Bradley Mikolas rose above the field in two classes to land a pair of series championships. Mikolas was able to hold off the field in the 125cc Intermediate and 125cc Open classes to secure his titles, even though both classes went all the way down to the last moto. Coming into the last race of the 125cc Intermediate class, Mikolas found himself with a scant three-point lead over Vernon McKiddie. With the points battle so close, whoever took the overall seemed likely to take the title. McKiddie took the holeshot in the first moto, putting his Fox/EBR/K's Motorsports Yamaha ahead of Mikolas and Sport Cycles of Houston/Spy/Hansen's Energy Drinksponsored Charles Castloo. The three quickly set a fast pace that carried them clear of the rest of the field. A battle seemed inevitable, but it never materialized. McKiddie took a solid moto win over Mikolas and Castloo, with Jake Crosby finishing fourth. McKiddie's win also gave him control of the points race heading into the final moto. The final moto proved to be the hardest. As the field charged the first turn, Mikolas came away with the holeshot. McKiddie was right behind him in second, but third was up for grabs. Castloo found himself picking his bike up off the ground in the third corner, and he now faced a long charge back to the front. At the end of the first lap, McKiddie was still behind the Pro Circuit/Bardwell Yamaha of Mikolas, and he seemed to be struggling. In the blink of an eye, McKiddie hit the dirt, while Mikolas motored away. McKiddie was quick to remount, but the gap between himself and Mikolas was 62 APRIL 1 7, 2002' cue I e now quite large. McKiddie tried to push forward, while behind him Cast100 had quietly moved back into third. Problems plagued McKiddie throughout the remainder of the moto until the checkered flag came out. Mikolas crossed the line first, and with the win came the title. A flat rear tire proved to be the source of McKiddie's struggle, and with the dry, slick track conditions, it must have played a factor in his finish. In the 125cc Novice class, Clint Breslin clinched the title after a series-long battle with Eric Wisnoski. Coming into the final round, Breslin held a one-point lead over Wisnoski. As the gate fell for the first moto, all eyes were on the two front-runners as they battled for the series title. Breslin did exactly what he had to do: get out front early and let the rest fall into place. Behind him, Wisnoski struggled to find his rhythm and lost valuable ground to Breslin. Wisnoski ended the moto in fifth, giving Breslin a distinct upper hand going into the final moto. Breslin took the win, ahead of Matt Ogrodowicz and Clear Lake Kawasaki's Joshua Propst. The second moto played out in much more dramatic fashion, with Breslin taking the lead early, ahead of Wisnoski. Behind Wisnoski, the trio of HHR's Kent Hartner, Highlands Kawasaki rider Ogrodowicz, and Propst all raced for position. On the second lap, Ogrodowicz and Propst were able to break free, while Hartner struggled to stay in the top five. Back up front, the battle between Wisnoski and Breslin was in full swing, as Wisnoski closed in on the T J's Cycle/HJC-sponsored KTM of Breslin. Wisnoski made his move on the third lap, taking the lead and never looking back. Breslin settled into second, which still secured him the overall and the series title. Ogrodon e _ s 51 (4·6): 1.
