IFMA FMX Series Round 27-28: Van Ande Arena Oldahoma's Kenny Bartram used sick tricks such as this Inverted Kiss Death to sweep both nights freestyle competition In Grand Rapids, Michigan. 0' 0' end, because I felt like I needed it to win. but I crashed and it cost me points in the standings and money this weekend. But the important thing is that I was okay after the crash. The next thing you will see out of me is just the usual. I'll put in solid runs and keep adding new tricks and combinations to my run and try to win the judges' approval." Taking second on Saturday was McElroy. "I rode consistent and good on Saturday to take second." McElroy said. "I was able to tie Miller again for the overall points tonight. So it was all good." Miller was able to pull off a third on Friday night with an amazing run. "I guess I must not have done my tricks as good as everyone else." Miller said. "I think I just need some more practice. I am going to stay with the same run. I just want to execute my tricks better. The stuff I'm trying to do now I haven't gotten down consistently, because they're so technical, but I'll get it. I was kind of confused about my qualifiers, that is, because I was doing all my hardest tricks in my run and I didn't feel like I got any credit for it, but there's nothing I can do about it." C&lowers qualified third on Saturday night and came away with a third for the night. "My night was good, and I rode solid both nights in both runs," Clowers said. "( didn't make any mistakes at all." eN V STORY AND PHOTOS BY RAYMOND GUNDY Friday (Left) Nate Adams' GRAND RAPIDS, MI. MAR. 8-9 no-handed he IFMA Series made its first stop ever at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. Michigan. where KTM/OG 10/ Aplinestars/Smithbacked Kenny Bartram came away with back-to-back wins, giving him a total of 12 overall wins this season. OGIO/Thor/Von Zipper/DC shoes' Nate Adams took second place Friday night, while BVH Honda/No Fear/Von Zipper/Moto XXX rider Drake McElroy took runner-up honors Saturday night. Pulling off thirdplace finishes over the weekend were Thor/Powerade/DC Shoes/Sidi's Dustin Miller and Ford Ranger/Red Bull/Maxxis/Alpinestars' Tommy Clowers. respectively. Bartram had the worst and best night of his career on Friday. "I'm stoked to finally have another double-night-win weekend," Bartram said. "Friday night, I'm not sure what happened, I think I got a little overconfident about the qualifier. I normally concentrate really hard right before my run and focus hard. Friday, I went into the qualifier with the attitude that it didn't matter how I rode and I would be able to make the final. That's definitely the wrong attitude - I went out and dead-sailored my first jump. I should have just goon-rode the rest of the qualifier, because in a one-minute run, a dead sailor kills you. 1 ended up ninth and they only take five to the final, so I wasn't even close. I am glad that I had to ride the LCQ. though. [as) it made me that Supennan helped him to second on Friday night at the Van Andel Arena. I saw Dustin Miller's run right before mine. and I didn't think anyone was going to beat him that night. "I knew, for me to be up there, I had to throw down everything I had,' Bartram said. "So I just tried really hard and pulled it off. It's going to take a very consistent year to win the championship. " Adams pulled off a great run Friday night but fell short of getting the win. "On Friday night, I went out and put in the best run that I could do, but I had a few mistakes here and there," Adams said. "I think Kenny Bartram was riding really well that night. so I just wasn't able to beat him. This weekend it was a sterilizer. I try to mix it up as much as I can, you know. just to show the judges that I am )Working during the week, not just hanging out and doing contests on the weekend. I have actually been doing Sterilizers for a little over a year. I decided to do one this week• n e ..., s
