Sam Dayton, who posted overall wins
in both the Over 35 and Over 40
classes. Dayton was on a new Honda,
and it looks as though the change
over the winter made a big difference.
In 125cc Pro action, Walker was
the quick man out of the gate. He
was followed by Jim Neese, Mark
Wagner, Boruff and David Dunbar.
Boruff began his march toward the
front early, as he passed Wagner at
the end of the first lap. Then, a few
laps later, he moved past Neese on
the infield sweeper and took over
second. Walker was in control" until
he stalled his machine and couldn't
get it started. Boruff and Neese went
by and Walker began to try to catch
up. Time ran out, giving Boruff the
moto win, followed by Neese, Walker,
Wagner and Nicholas Vargo.
In moto two, Walker ran away with
the win, but the consistent Boruff
placed second and earned the overall
victory. He was followed by Neese,
Wagner and Canada's Kaven
Gregoire. Placing sixth in the second
moto, Vargo earned fifth overall.
Walker won the 250cc Pro contest
with ease, pulling both holeshots and
never looking back. Behind him was
a mixture of new and old. In moto
one, Wagner was second on the start,
followed by Dunbar, newcomer Jason
Wiley, and veteran Neese. Wiley and
Neese passed Dunbar to assume third
and fourth. Chad Lough, on a borrowed Yamaha, was now up to fifth.
Wagner went down, giving second to
Neese. The order remained the same
until the end: Walker, Neese, Wiley,
Boruff and Lough. The second moto
was a mix-up, as Boruff netted
second, followed by Neese, Vargo
and the steady Lough.
The Over 30 A class is now
Walker's domain, as he took both
motos and the overall. Billy Liles
was second. Ritchie Clippard, Sam
Dayton and Frank Koenig rounded
out the top five.
The Over 25 A contest was a show
of the same faces, as Neese won both
motos. Lough, Liles, Troy Crisp and
Clippard rounded out the top five.
B.J. Huntsinger, on a new Yamaha
four-stroke, took top honors in
the Four-Stroke division. Then he
returned to do battle with Travis
Flowers and Jason Tucker in the
125cc B class. Flowers, who was also
on a new Yamaha, won both motos,
followed by Huntsinger, Tucker,
Blake Hovis and young Malcolm
Klepp.
Hagar's Kawasaki's Les Smith was
three for four on moto wins, earning
overall awards for the 85cc (7 -11)
class and runner-up in the 85cc
(9-13) class. He had stiff competition
from Roy Mitchell, who ran second in
three of the four motos. Both riders
experienced bad luck, which allowed
Steve Houser to earn the overall in
the 85cc (9-13) class. He was fast
and consistent all day.
