Japan and North America will compete June 1-2 in the Spirit Mountain World Round. the ninth and 10th rounds of the 2002 World Trials Championship, in Minnesota. The world round competition in Duluth represents a joint effort of three clubs; Minnesota's Upper Midwest Trials Association, the Wisconsin Observed Trials Association. and the Duluth-based Northland Motorcycle Riders Association. Gates to the event will open at 8 a,m, Saturday and Sunday. June 1 and 2. AMA Sports, the amateur and pro-am competition division of the AMA. has announced the two events that make up the 2002 North American Motorcycle Union (NAMU) Observed Trials Championships. The U.S, championship round will be held on August 3-4 at Donner Ski Ranch near Donner. California, promoted by the Pacific International Trials Society. The Canadian round, hosted by the Steel City Riders, will be held on August 24-25 near Halliburton. Ontario. The U,S, round of the 2002 NAMU Observed Trials Championships, the 32nd EI Trial de Espana. is the annual fundraiser for the U.S, Trial des Nations Team, The winner of the 2001 EI Trial de Espana was Geoff Aaron of Ramona, California, his third victory in the event. Aaron is also a six-time U,S, National Champion, and was named AMA Amateur Athlete of the Year in 2000, The 2002 Trials des Nations is scheduled for September in Pacos de Ferreira, Portugal. The 2000 U.S, men's team took home the International Trophy for winning the Trials des Nations 'B" group. qualifying it for the premier "A' group in 2001. The hectic 15-minute drive in Delecour's Lancer Evolution WRC took Checa between Vic and Girona and left him visibly impressed. "Next time, 1'0 like to be in the driving seatl' he said in a release issued by Marlboro, "It was great though, Delecour drives so fast and everything happens so qUickly that it's very difficult to work out what's going on. It seems like you can't even see the corner before you're already in and out of it, I was very impressed by how relaxed Delecour was throughout the drive, even though he told me afterwards that it's very difficult for him to drive without a co-driver reading him notes, But even if I'd had the notes I wouldn't have been able to read them because I was using all my concentration just holding on to the seat. The American Trials Association (ATA) and the PaCific International Trials Society (PITS) have announced that they have agreed to jointly promote the upcoming 32nd annual EI Trial de Espana Observed Trials event at the Donner Ski Ranch in Norden California. August 34, Bill Markham, ATA President stated: 'This prestigious trials event has been held for the last 31 years in southern California and this shared promotion will help spread the work load of staging the event.
