ill and Oliver Taylor battled for second; fi! ~ 5 w ~< o ~ g ~ Q " ~ u ?ii ~ Q. Motocross Wortd: TIm Eggers (351) leads Matthew Crown (32) in the first Over 25 mota at the third round of the Nlte Cross series In Blthlo, Florida. In the first moto of the Open Money class, Bigelow was out front on the first lap. Crown started second and put the pressure on to make a pass on lap two. Florida's Tim Eggers started third and was the next to pull up behind Bigelow. Eggers passed on the next lap for second. Florida's Chris Kasavage passed Bigelow by halfway for fourth. Crown slowly pulled away and won the moto. Eggers finished second and vowed to give Crown a run for the money in the second moto. Kasavage, Bigelow and Craig Johnson rounded out the top five. In the second moto, Eggers did what he said he was going to do and pulled the holeshot. Crown, in second, began applying pressure on lap two and found an opening for the lead on lap three. Eggers stayed close for a couple of laps but Crown's pace was just too much. Crown won, and Eggers finished second. Bigelow, Johnson and Kasavage rounded out the top five. Eggers pulled the holeshot in the first combined Over 30 and Over 35 moto and looked unbeatable. Eggers won the moto, while Bigelow started second and finished there. David Sorter started third, only to be passed by Marc Castonguay by halfway. Johnson started fifth but slipped back in the pack; Chad Umes finished fifth. Eggers led moto two, with Bigelow hot on his tail. Sorter, Ron Meredith and John Farrell were in the top five. Eggers led the first couple of laps and then put it on cruise control and let Bigelow by. Eggers was saving his energy for the second moto of the Open Money class. The race in this moto was going to be for the third spot. Johnson was on the move after starting in seventh; he sliced through the pack to fourth by the halfway flag, as Castonguay followed in fifth. 76 APRIL 3, 2002' eye I _ Johnson slowly gained ground on Sorter, in third. With one lap to go, Johnson pulled up on Sorter. Johnson made the pass as the two riders went over the triple in the back section. But the race was not over yet. Johnson made a mistake, pushing too hard coming out of the back section and going down. Sorter repassed to finish third, as Castonguay and Jack Steele went by. In the 125cc C class, Justin Beurket led the biggest class into turn one. John Carriere was a close second as Josh Lambeth, Larsen Erickson and Ryan Hammond followed. Carriere put the pressure on Beurket but could never make a pass. Erickson then ran third until he was passed by Ryan Martin, who seemed to be the fastest rider on the track, charging from eighth to finish third. Erickson fell on the last lap while holding fourth, and he finished well back in the pack. This moved Nicholas Mackie and Anthony Kintrup into the top five. Beurket and Carriere finished one-two, well out front. Justin Fitzgerald pulled the holeshot in moto two, only to fall and start from the back on lap one. As the pack sorted itself out, Kyle Huston led. Carriere found himself in second, as Martin, Beurket and Nick Osofsky followed. Carriere passed Huston for the lead and pulled out for the win. The race in this moto was for second. Huston, Martin and Beurket ran close enough to one another to feel the roost off of each other's back tires. Martin finally made a pass for second on the last lap, as Beurket could never get a wheel in to move up from fourth. Taylor McDonald rounded out the top five. There was a lot of action to be found in the 80cc Beginner class. Matthew Laming led the first moto from start to finish, as Josh Talmadge n __ s Taylor finally came out on top. Chad Kirkland and Austin Broome finished fourth and fifth, respectively. T he second moto was just as exciting, as Talmadge led and Laming and Taylor fought for second. The two made their way around Talmadge. The three finished in the same order in as the first moto. Kirkland was fourth once again, and Mark Taglione finished fifth. Arkansas Hare Scrambles Championship series Round 2: BynI's Adventure center Rector Smokes 'em at the Bandit Bv JAN WEISENFELS CASS, AR, MAR. 10 yrd's Adventure Center hosted round two of the Arkansas Hare Scrambles Championship Series. The Beech Grove Bandit race was held at the resort, located in a scenic valley nestled in the Ozark Mountains, right on the Mulberry River. The short course started at 10:30. The air was cold and frigid, at 24 degrees, but after the sun started peaking over the mountaintops, the temperatures started to rise. Due to some heavy rains that had hit the area a few days before the race, the river and several creeks had started to flood. The short course was routed to a dryer part of the trail. The long course started with the AA class on the line, and it was loaded with talent. By now the weather was perfect, though there was still a lot of water in several places on the five miles of trail. All the riders knew at the start of the race was that the creek crossing would be a major hurdle. The trail crew used a bulldozer to move lots of rocks and gravel into an area of the creek, to make it easier for the bikes to get across. Aware of the lack of visibility, all the racers knew the importance of getting a B good start. The track was muddy, and getting behind other riders could make things very difficult. When the clock showed 12:30, the Pro class was off, with Fayetteville/FMF/Michelin-backed KTM rider Josh Weisenfels getting the holeshot. Springfield, Missouri's Dale Rector was in fourth place. After all the riders went through the back section of the track, Weisenfels was still in the lead. It wasn't long before Rector passed Weisenfels. Then Weisenfels was able to take the lead back. Before the first check, Weisenfels looked back and saw that Rector was turning around. Rector realized he hadn't seen any arrows and that they had taken the wrong trail. By now, Rector had the lead on Weisenfels, and he would hold it until the end. AA rider Drew Chandler was out in the front of the pack on the first lap when he went down, breaking his clutch lever and cutting his arm to the bone, which took him out of the race. The riders quickly discovered that the rock that had been put in the creek had washed out after the first lap. The riders knew that it was now even more important for them to take their time crossing the high water,
