" facilities: Electrical hookups, concessions. restroom, By PAC LEWIS ROBERTA,GA,FEB,10 t was a beautiful day for motocross racing at round three of the X-treme Winter Challenge Series, held at Hillbilly Hills Motocross. With temperatures in the mid 60s in the middle of February, this was a rider's dream_ The action started off fast and furious, as Chad Ward and Jon Boy Monk squared off in the Open Pro class. Both armed with wicked fourstrokes, Yamaha rider Ward and Honda-mounted Monk raised the decibel level as these two friends went at it bar to bar in every corner, rubbing elbows and trading plastic. Monk, on the CRF450, took the checkers with some of the best moves on the day. Justin Graham had an excellent day in both the 125cc and 250cc C classes. In the first 125cc C moto, points leader Torre Streifthau got a terrible start and, while trying to get through the pack, he went down and restarted dead last. Meanwhile, Graham was out front, with a very fast Andrew Gaddis a close second. Streifthau was on fire, coming through the pack, sometimes passing riders in bunches to scratch and claw his way to the front. With one lap to go, Graham held the lead, Gaddis was second, and Streifthau was third but coming up fast. Halfway through the last lap, Streifthau was nosing a tire in on Gaddis in every turn. While those two were battling behind him, Graham pulled away enough to create a little breathing room. Coming into the last corner, Gaddis had the inside line and Streifthau took a rarely used outside line, which proved to be a millisecond too slow, as Gaddis took second place by a wheel over Streifthau, with Graham the firstmoto winner. Moto two was a different story. Streifthau took the holeshot and led I 60 MARCH 6, 2002' cue I e from wire to wire, but Graham also got a great start and wisely settled for second place - and the overall on the day. In 250cc C action, Graham took a first-moto win over Charlie Evans, who just graduated from 80cc machines. In moto two, Graham battled with Pac Lewis for the moto win, but at the checkers it was Graham taking the win, followed by Lewis, who got second overall on the day for his efforts. The 85cc (7-11) and (9-13) contests were all about one guy: Bubba Crosby. Taking moto sweeps in both classes, Crosby made things look easy out on the rough and bumpy course. In 85cc (7-11) racing, Cash Barnhart and Matt Bell battled for second, with Barnhart taking that spot with a second-place finish in the second moto to Bell's third. In the 85cc (9-13) division, Chase Merritt tried to chase down Crosby but had to settle for second. Chad Handrop put in a breakthrough performance, sweeping the 85cc (12-15) class, ahead of Merritt_ Handrop also raced in the Supermini class, and when class favorite and race leader Chip Weatherup had mechanical problems, Handrop was right there to take the lead and the first-moto win. In the second moto, Weatherup was again up front, apparently having fixed his mechanical problems, but Handrop was putting the pressure on, and he stayed close to take the overall with a smart second-place ride, Weatherup also made his debut on the bigger bikes, riding an RM125 in the Youth class. The start of the first moto was a cluster, as four bikes headed down into the first gully side by side. Streifthau, Weatherup, Charlie Evans and Brandon Chapman were all side by side when Evans' nevvs bike kicked sideways, taking down Chapman and Weatherup. Streifthau somehow managed to avoid the turmoil and escape for an easy win. Anthony Ardizzone finished second, but on the last lap he had Weatherup knocking on the door. In moto two, there was a duel for the holeshot, with Streifthau and Weatherup banging bars around the first three corners, neither willing to give an inch_ Finally Streifthau got a better line and edged out Weatherup to take the lead, and that is how they ended up: with Streifthau taking the overall, Weatherup in second and Ardizzone in third. Billy Scoggins also had a great day of racing, taking the win in the Over 40 class. Scoggins took the holeshot and led both motos from wire to wire over Michael Carr and Monty Weatherup for the overall. Todd Ritchie also thrived in the Vet classes, taking the first-place trophy in both the Over 30 and Over 35 classes. In Over 30 action, Robert Thanas grabbing second place with a - track promoter Randy Yoho - By ANGELA HARDeN second-moto win, and in Over 35 racing, Marcus Rainwater edged out Tim De Vaney for second. 1:1III Hillbilly Hills MobIc:ras IIoIIerta, IilIergia IIeSlIIb: F8brury 10, 2002 (IIalontl 31 50 SHAFT: 1.
