I've been lucky enough, so far, not to have. actually torn anything in my knee or had any sort of knee surgeries, but I've had enough trauma to the area to cause prelty mach chronic iDstahility. With this in mind, I went to my doctor ahout 18 months ago, had him in.spect my knees, and when he recommended knee braces, I immediately thought of the CTi', because it seemed like thai's what all the factory riders were wearing. I asked him to write me a prescrlption for that particular brace, and he obliged. A couple of weeks later, Ed Mqntes from.Inn.ovation Sports carne into the office and measured me up for the braces, and a couple of weeks after that, my rep, Jerry Lindblad, obviously also Q) Innovation Sports.. had them delivered. The'y explaioed. how to fit them, . .how to wear them, epa how to take care of them. What I didn't'know was how useful they'd '00. The braces didn't do much more than a.ct as knee-guards fbr the first year or so, as I was lucky to not have any significant crashes.in that period 0) tlme.lBut ev'en as knee-guards, they saved me much pain and suffering by not only protecting my knee and sh,in,.b1l,t ~o a good portion of my thigh. The day did come, however, that the braces woUld prove their full worth to me. When we here at Cycle News went oulto Glen Helen Raceway to begin our Open Four-Stroke MX Shootout, the wind was really strong and gusty. On ahout my fifth lap around the track on_the new Honda CRF450R, a gust of wind hit me broadside when I was in midair over one of Glen HeIeo's many tahletops, and the bike went out from under me. I landed with my left foot on the left footpeg, and my rlght foot (leg extended) flat on the'ground, and tumbling ensued. I'was perfectly fine. Nothing but afew bruises and a damaged ego. What got me was that, later on, I develOP-edsome tenderness, along with an ahsolutely ngly 4-inch-by-4-inch bruise above my right knee, and it occurred to_me that my knee brace bad caused the bmising while keeping my knee from hyper-extending. The bruise was gooe in a week, whereas my knee may have been messed up for life had it not been for my CTi' knee braces. I highly recommend these braces to anyone who races motocross, whether you've had knee problems in the past or oot.-They saved my knee, or at the minimum saved me weeks of pain and saffering, and I'm sure they'll do the sarne for many of you. vvvvvv.lnnovetionsports.carn 60 FEBRUARY 20, 2002· cue • e n e _ s
