Glen Helen Raceway Park Page Stages His Moves Well By BOB ALLOY SAN BERNARDINO, CA, JAN. 11 It was high time that the ROTMXers got rid of all that accumulated joint rust after several long, long weeks away from their great sport, and so it was that on a nice winter day at Glen Helen's fun and challenging track, 52 of them got out and once again kicked up the dirt. Glen Page had an unforgettably good race day. Not only did he have the satisfaction of beating all the other Over Expert 40 riders, he was quickly promoted into the Master B class after some really some good moving and grooving. Jack Roten finished second in the Over 40 Experts class, followed by Ed Wollejon. Tim Williams, riding his new Yamaha four-stroke, secured fourth nicely. Dave Stephens generated plenty of speed in moto two and powered across the finish first, with Phil Cruz owning second. Williams slotted in a fast third, and Terry Tate, the number·one-plate holder, was there to collect fourth. Superfast speeds, no mistakes, great energy and lots and lots of know-how were all evident as Ken Ehlers wrapped up both moto wins in the fast Master B class. Following Ehlers in moto one was Steve Donaldson, who is always a worthy opponent. The runner· up in mota two was the recently transferred Page. In the Over 40 Amateur class, Tom Conrad made all the right moves and was rewarded with number·one status. John Timmermans is always a quick one, and he speedily rode across in second. Richard Lamis occupied third. Timmermans got his hot Suzuki into the ace position in moto two, and Lamis and Con· rad rounded out the podium. Chris Valencia kept the show moving at a fast pace, beating all his fellow Over 40 Novice riders to the finish, with a speedy Gerry Kompleski placing second. The second time around, Kompleski hauled and Valencia racked up second. George Spearing certainly knows a thing or two about winning, and the proof was his two fast and smart first·place finishes in the Over 50 Expert class. Jack Garland zapped to a speedy second place, and Bob Feisler checked in with third. Feisler upped the power in moto two and placed second, with a fast Cleyon Loonsfoot chasing him in and earning third. Ken Beach reached the high points with his two excellent moto wins in the Over 50 Amateur class for the overall victory. Chuck Woody blazed across in each mote with second-place honors. Barry Simon flew his KTM in third in moto one, and Frank Derby wrapped up third in moto two. Thomas Smith was the fastest Over 50 Novice rider out there, and he proved this in moto one - and again in moto two. John Webb may have gotten the holeshot to the buffet line at the ROTMX awards banquet, but on this day he wasn't quite as quick and he had to settle for second place. Scott Walker powered across with second place in moto two. Results 40.. NOV: 1. Gerry Kompleskl (Yem): 2. Chris Villencle (KllW). 40.. AM: l. John TImmermans (&K); 2. Tom Conrad (Hon): 3.
