"I Ii ne the outside on the slope," McQuary sa is good starts at the Lazy E Arena. " starting gate, it is steeper on the one side and every time I hit that slope I gained a bike length." Afterward, McQuary said of his goings so far this season, "The series has been rough. I took a hard hit in Fort Worth and got taken out last week a couple of times in Grand Rapids. But 1 love this. It's a blast." McQuary held off the pack until he went too wide in the exit turn after the triple, opening the door for Hagseth and Demuth. Bradshaw suffered a less-than-stellar start back in sixth. Deml-lth made short work of Hagseth, passing him in the next turn past the V.J.P. rockers. Hofmaster garnered third by the end of lap two, followed by Lange and Bradshaw. Lange passed Hofmaster the next lap over the triple, and then Bradshaw caught Hofmaster the lap after that in the rockers. The top five established a five-second lead on the rest of the racers by the end of lap four. Things got interesting on lap eight, when Lange got around Hagseth, only to go down in the first-turn area. Bradshaw caught Hagseth in the rockers and moved into Darcy's vacated second position, while Demuth went on to take the buck-and-quarter win. "I was trying to do everything I could to get the win," said Demuth. "I could see Bradshaw was at the back of the pack and 1 was trying to put a couple of bikes between him and I at the finish. But he definitely is an awesome rider and he was able to pull it out at the end for second." "The whoops were tough lap after lap," Bradshaw said. "I screwed up in the beginning, but was able to make it work." "I managed to catch Hagseth for second over the triple," said Lange. "I felt like I was running real strong and doing good. I tagged the last whoop and it sent me over the bars. But I got up and finished fourth." Bradshaw owned the final race of the weekend when he put his 250 at the front of the pack off the gate and held the position throughout the 14lap race. Lange collected second off the gate, with Jeff Willoh and Hagseth behind him. Hagseth caught and passed Willoh on lap two for third, as the crowd searched the course for Demuth. "I got an eighth-place start," said Demuth. "I was in sixth by the end of the first lap, but it's been a long weekend." Demuth worked his way to third, having battled with Hofmaster through lap six. He trailed Lange by seven seconds, but put his YZ into hyper drive and closed in on Lange to three seconds by the end of lap 11. It was at that time that Demuth went down. "' caught a little rut in the whoops when' came into it, and thought' had saved it, but just kind of kept sliding," 5a'HJ-.uemuth. '" put my foot down and thoug 0 , but then , fell over." Hofmaster was four sec behind Demuth and caught up to him, but Demuth was on fire as he put his head down once again, parking Hofmaster. Bradshaw took the win by a good, solid five seconds in front of Lange, who held seven seconds over Demuth for second. "They run the 125 and 250cc mains so close together that we really don't have any time to rest," Bradshaw said. "So I concentrate on getting off the gate good and getting off to a decent lead, and then start relaxing. 1 got out pretty good and made a mistake at the end of the whoops, which allowed Darcy to catch back up, so 1 had to press for a couple more laps for some breathing room where I felt comfortable to run the lines I wanted to run. When someone is on your butt, you really can't run the lines you want to because you have to protect the inside." "I caught the second-place start," said Darcy, "and I finished there." "I kind of block-passed Hofmaster a little bit," Demuth said. "But I was able to keep third. I was trying to be as cautioned as I could to make the podium as the points are so close between Bradshaw and me." eN Lazy E Arena Guthria, Oklahoma Results: January 11-12, 2002 (Rounds 13-141 Friday 125 PRO: 1.
