Southeastern Fall Classic Shootout
Best of Georgia/Alabama Championship Mot8cross Series
Final Round: Lazy River Motocross Ranch
Garrett Gunnin'
at Lazy River
There was some bar banging as Martin slipped by Swaney in a turn, but
Swaney charged. back to get alongside Martin in the next corner and
force him wide; Martin went down.
Then a hard-charging Albritton made
a challenge for the lead. Coming into
the rhythm section on Swaney's rear
wheel, Albritton piloted his YZ426F
past for the lead. Again, the camelback before the finish provided the
opportunity for a pass, and Swaney
outjumped Albritton to take the lead
by a wheel. Then a last-second banzai burst into the rhythm section,
where the finish line was, gave Albritton the win. Swaney got a hardearned second in the moto, with Martin third. Whitmire had a nasty get-off
in the rhythm section that left his left
arm broken.
In the 250cc Open A contest, Martin finished first, followed by Albritton, Swaney, Hoffman and Askew.
Swaney put in a stellar performance in the 125cc A class. He led
every lap of the second moto and took
a 1-1 score on the day, with Dustin
Higdon second, Askew third, Randy
Thomas fourth, and Whitmire fifth.
D.C. Thomason had a good day,
taking home overall victories in the
125cc B and Youth (12-15) classes.
In Youth (12-15) action, Auston
Albers led every lap of the first moto
on his Suzuki, with Thomason second
and Richard Sheriff third. In moto
two, Torre Streifthau got the holeshot,
but Thomason got around on the first
lap and set a blistering pace no one
else could match. Streifthau and
Sheriff had a moto-Iong duel that
ended with Sheriff getting by
Streifthau to take second. Albers,
who won moto one, came back from
a midpack start to take fourth.
Thomason took the overall, with
Sheriff, Albers, Streifthau and Keith
Davidson rounding out the top five.
In 125cc B action, Thomason set
the pace and left everyone else to
fight for second. Rob Wooden got
second overall, with Sheriff third,
Broc Hinkley fourth and Kyle McBride
fifth.

CHATSWORTH, GA, NOV. 18
azy River Motocross Ranch hosted
the final round of both the Best of
Georgia/Alabama Championship
Motocross Series and the Southeastern Fall Classic Shootout. Many class
championships came down to the last
race, and many positions were still up
for grabs.
Suzuki/Yamaha of Dalton rider
Mike Garrett had an exceptional day,
except for his last moto. Scoring a
clean sweep through the Over 30 and
Over 35 motos, Garrett had a harder
time in the Over 25 class. In the first
Over 25 moto, Garrett led every lap
but the final one, as Tommy Martin
slipped by on the inside of a turn to
take the win, with Garrett second.
Garrett was in control in the second
moto and poised to take his third
overall on the day when a slight mistake in the rhythm section caused
him to go down hard. Martin took the
win and the overall, followed by
Michael Hoffman, Chad Anderson,
Kevin Yerby and Garrett, who finished
fifth on the day after his crash.
Garrett had better luck in his earlier motos, winning the Over 30 class
over Joel Sewell, Steven Wilbanks,
Brian Compton and Thomas Bryant,
and the Over 35 class ahead of Martin (who finished second in both
motos), Sewell, Glenn Bates and
Mike Henderson.
Henderson won the Over 40 moto,
with Billy Scoggins second, Bobby
Staggs third, Chuck Greer fourth and
William Stoller fifth.
The 250cc Open A class would
prove to be the most competitive
class of the day. Josh Askew took the
first-moto holeshot and led the first
three laps until a mistake in a sandy
corner let Martin and Josh Whitmire
slip by. In a dash to the checkers,
Whitmire attempted to outjump Martin on a tricky camelback before the
finish, and although he did outjump
Martin, the latter took the checkers
by a wheel. In moto two, Kris Swaney
took the holeshot, followed closely by
Martin, Whitmire and Chad Albritton.

The 125cc C contest was another
win for Albers, who, since moving up _
to the 125cc machine, has been
notching quite a few victories on his
Suzuki. Streifthau put in a good performance to finish second, ahead of
Marcus John Thompson, Davidson,
and Chris Hall.
Cameron Stone was another double-class winner on the day. He won
overalls in the 85cc (9-13) and 85cc
(7-11) classes. In the 85cc (9-13)
class, Brett Dyer absconded with the
holeshot in moto one, but a mistake in
a sandy tum allowed Chad Handrop,
Gregory Roberts and Stone to get
around. Handrop won moto one, with
Roberts and Stone close behind. In
moto two, Stone snared the holeshot
and the win, followed by Roberts, Handrop and Dalton McAlamey.
In 85cc (7-11) action, Stone
racked up a 2-1 score to edge out
Bubba Crosby's 1-2 tally.
