tion, barely beating out Whitley and Belcher. When the first combined 80cc Intermediate and Advanced moto blasted out of the gate, Seminole Honda/O'Neal's Zach Hamilton gra bbed the holeshot, followed by Matthew Burke. Halfway through the first lap, Burke took the lead after the triple. Matt Theus was now in third, followed by First City Honda/Moto Core's Chris Hale and CSC Home Improvement's Josh Miller. Theus pressured Hamilton and passed for second on lap two. As Hamilton dropped back, Burke and Theus battled for the lead. Burke won the moto over Theus. Hamilton finished third and Hale fourth. Hamilton led the second moto. Miller, Burke, Nicholas Taylor and Theus all jockeyed for position. Burke moved to second over Mount Kline. Before the first lap was over, Burke passed Hamilton, and he sailed away for the win. Theus sliced through to third and reeled in Hamilton. It came down to the last lap; Hamilton saw Theus beside him after the starting line. The two entered the corner; Theus was on the outside. Hamilton pushed Theus to the top of the berm, and Theus backed off the throttle. Burke won again, as Hamilton and Theus finished two-three. Clark made one big jump and passed Miller and Hale at the step-up for fourth. Les Burnside absconded with the holeshot in the first Over 30 and Over 40 moto. Cycle Riders/GPS Suspensions' Steve Dumond took the lead after the triple. The two were followed by Greg Martin, US1 Powersports' Jim Chludzinski, and Gary Allred. The top two pulled away. Wayne Hodges, in sixth, was the one to watch. Hodges and Allred made it to third and fourth and looked for Burnside in second. When they got by Burnside, the moto was over, with Dumond the winner. Burnside led moto two. Allred, Hodges, Dumond and Jeff Sniadach scrapped for second. Hodges and Dumond got by Allred. The two caught Burnside, who wanted nothing to do with the bumping and grinding behind him. Burnside dropped to fourth as Allred tried to keep pace in third. On the last lap, Hodges and Dumond split around a lapped rider going over the triple. Dumond took the inside to get the lead. Hodges put his bike a wheel ahead before the S turn. Dumond let it all hang out and retook the lead for a narrow win. eN Pax Trax MX Park Bunnell, Florida Results: December 9, 2001 [Round 41 50 (4-6): 1. Nathan Wirth (Yam); 2. Jake Raikes (Yam); 3. MX Winter Challenge Clark County Arenacross Series Rounds 3/3: Clark County fairgrounds Villopoto Raises the Bar By JUSTIN WHARTON VANCOQVER,WA, DEC. 9 R yan Villopoto was nothing short of amazing at the third round of the Promoto Promotions Clark County Arenacross series, as he completely dominated the 80cc action in the 85cc (12-15), 85cc Intermediate, 85cc Open and Supermini classes. Other double-class winners included Brad Frace, in the 50cc (7-9), 50cc Open and 65cc (4-8) classes; KTM-mounted Landon Currier, in the 65cc (9-11) and 65cc Open classes; and Joey Mancuso, in the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate classes. Clark County Fairgrounds: Ryan Villopoto won the 85cc (12-15), 85cc Intermediate, 85cc Open and Supermini classes at the third round of the MX Winter Challenge, which also doubled as the third round of the Clark County Arenacross Series, in Vancouver, Washington. Villopoto's first win came in the 85cc Open class, in which he blew away the competition in both his heat and the main event. His only real competition was Jake Anstett, who followed behind Villopoto the whole race. The two pulled away from the rest of the field to finish nearly half a lap ahead of everyone else. Taking third was Alec Watts, fourth went to Devon Elia, and fifth to Dustin Sullivan. Villopoto also had similar success in the 85cc (12-15), 85cc Intermediate and Supermini classes, winning all three heats and all three mains to make it a perfect eight for eight while making all the jumps (even the big triples) look easy. The talk of the day was that national Pro rider and local hero Jason McCormick was on hand to ride. When the gate dropped in the combined 125cc Pro and Intermediate heat, everyone could tell McCormick was in a class of his own, as he flew a round the track faster than most people thought possible. Needless to say, he easily won, lapping up to third place. It was quite a different story in the main, though, as McCormick got the holeshot, followed by KTM-mounted Todd Blanchard and Bryan Thibedeau. McCormick put a huge gap on everyone else until, just four laps into race, he went for a very tricky triple in the rhythm section and cased it, injuring his knee, which he just had surgery on, and decided to pull out of the race. With McCormick gone, it was the now lone Pro rider, Blanchard, who had the lead, which he would hold on to throughout the entire 20-lap main, despite advances by Mancuso, who, after wrecking in the first corner, put on a impressive charge from dead last to second, though he still won the Intermediate contest. Taking third cue I e was Thibedeau, followed by Daniel Hamilton and Richard Page. In the 250cc Pro class, Eric Roth took the win, while in the 250cc Intermediate sector, it was Mancuso taking the victory, trailed by Hamilton and Eric Rogers. So far this season, Currier has been dominating the 65cc action, and this race was no exception - except that he had a lot more competition this time, in the form of Gared Steinke and Jared Wood, who kept Currier honest in all of his motos. In the 65cc (9-11) qualifying, Currier got out of the gate fastest and never looked back. He was followed by Steinke and Wood. In the main, things appeared to be exactly the same, as Currier once again got the holeshot, with Steinke and Wood in tow, but this time the three stayed closer to each other throughout the entire race. Currier stayed ahead of Steinke, and the two put on quite a show as they both did two 65-foot triples on their KTM 60cc machines. Currier held on for the win, followed by Steinke, Wood, Chad Turner and Kyle Garmen. Frace flat out amazed everyone with what he could do on his little 50, as he was doing things most of the 60s couldn't dol He totally ran away with the 50cc Open-class win, and his only serious competition came from fellow Cobra rider Brody Thom. The two totally ran away from the field in the main event, with Frace still distancing himself from even Thom. When the checkers came out, the order was Frace, Thom and Cody Politle.
