Halloween Motocross Weekend Bunker Hill Motocross Track By DICK GOODWIN PHOTOS BY WINDY SULLIVAN DElTA, aT, OCT. 27-28 n unker Hill Motocross, in conjunction with the Utah Sport Riders Association, hosted the annual Halloween Motocross Weekend in Delta, Utah. This annual event usually draws a ton of racers, and this year was no exception, as gorgeous weather and a very well-prepped track greeted everyone. Six hundred or so entrants were on hand for each day's racing, so classes were stout in all divisions, including the Pros. In Saturday's 125cc Pro contest, Garet Pilgrim blasted off the line to lead Matt Bate, Cassidy Anderson, Branden Barnes and the field up Bunker Hill. Anderson passed Bate early and wrested the lead from Pilgrim shortly thereafter. Chris Butterfield was picking off riders, sliding into second, behind Anderson, at the end of lap one. By midway, Anderson and Butterfield were going hard for the lead while, just behind, Barnes was fending off Kipp Posey, who had come raging up from way back. When Anderson finally broke free from Butterfield, Posey was right there to take over second. Anderson won, with Posey, Butterfield and Pilgrim following. Posey shot out in front of Pilgrim and Barnes in moto two. Anderson clawed his way into second. Anderson hammered Posey for the lead, but Posey wouldn't let him pass. Posey and Anderson went bar to bar for the remainder, with Barnes hanging close in third. The two front-runners were really putting on a show; whoever won would take the overall. Finally, Posey eked out a narrow win and the overall 125cc Pro title over Anderson, Butterfield and Korey Smith. The 80cc(7 -11) class also had a big gate. Rudi Williams zipped out in front of Colton Greenhalgh, Brett Preuss and Braden Butterfield. Greenhalgh fought past for the lead during lap one, as Braden battled into second. Greenhalgh opened up a lead, flashing to the first-moto win. Butterfield stayed solid in second, while Williams and Dacoda Sorochuk came across next. In moto two, Preuss gunned it up the big hill ahead of Butterfield and Jeremy Allred. Greenhalgh charged through to make it a three-way fight with Preuss and Butterfield for the lead. Preuss was flying out front until a bobble gave his pursuers a shot at him. Greenhalgh nipped Preuss at the wire for the victory and the overall 80cc (7-11) crown. Preuss was second overall, ahead of Allred and Sorochuk. In the Women's division, Ashlee Greenhalgh emerged victorious after two tough motos. Heavy hitter Kim ti 36 DECEMBER 12, 2001 • cue (Above) LevU Hall was victorious in the 60cc (6-8) Stock class in Delta, Utah. I Robinson, the pre-race favorite, shot off the line to lead Joy Senske, AshJee and Kasaundra Teegarden up the big hill. With Robinson opening up a lead, the battle was for second, as Jenica Jenson fought through to join Ashlee and Senske in that duel. Robinson romped, winning the first half, while Jenson came on late to finish a close second. In moto two, Senske improved on her previous start by one, leading Robinson, Ashlee and Brittnee Deveraux out onto the course. Robinson passed Senske and then Ashlee did likewise, and then Jenson joined in the battle royale for the lead. Robinson went down in a sweeper while leading, leaving the door open, and Ashlee rushed right through it, thank you very much. With Ashlee in the lead, Jenson on her rear fender and Robinson on the ground, whoever crossed the finish line first would take the overall. Ashlee hung tough, hung on, and hammered out the win that would earn her the overall Women's class crown. Jenson's close second netted her second overall, ahead of Robinson and Senske. In one of the more rowdy classes of the day, Zac Humphries led off the 250cc Juniors action with a holeshot, ahead of Jesse Demick and Eric Rickett. Demick passed him, but Humphries got him back, as Ken Robinson came up to challenge for second. By the time Ken fought past Demick, Humphries was long gone, winning race one with ease. Ken led Chad Hansen and Danny Madsen through the pipes. Humphries duplicated his heroics in the second half, with Ken, Madsen and Demick right behind. With a clear shot this time, Ken passed for the lead, but Humphries zapped him back, and now Ken needed to worry about Hansen. Humphries stepped out to a big lead, put it on cruise control and stormed home to win number two, locking up the 250cc Junior title. Hansen made a midrace pass on Ken n e _ 51: • to secure second overall, ahead of Ken, while Charlie Chappell and Mike Kirby nailed down the next two spots. Levii Hall beat up on the 60cc (6-8) class big time. Bo Welcker zipped into the lead, with Dustie Humphries and Hall in tow. Hall passed for second. Then Welcker tipped over and Hall went on for the win. Kyle Price was second and Chad Hunt third. Hall went wire to wire in moto two, with Price right behind. Hunt and Humphries followed.
