r----------------------------------,liJ A.V. Stadium Cross, held at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. When the gate dropped for the single 8 >- 125cc Pro moto, Yamaha·mounted Jeremy CO Chaussee absconded with the holeshot, just ahead of Michael Young, Jonathan Shimp and ffi 0. Reif. Young latched on to Chaussee's rear ~ fender and hounded him up until the midway point of the race - at which time the race was stopped and the riders were lined back up in single file in an inverted order, with the leader @ iE Results Results Young and made the pass just after the white flag. Young tried to retaliate with half a lap remaining, but he tapped Reif in a turn and stalled his YZ250F. Reif continued on for the win aboard his Escondido Cycle Center/Spy/ Thor/Shoei-backed RM125. Chaussee crossed the line in second, followed by Weigand, Tommy Harrison, Sean O'Connor and then Young. The 250cc Pro-class holeshot honors went to Weigand, with Chaussee, Young and Andreu Labrador in pursuit. Weigand bobbled a turn on lap two and was dropped to third place, behind Chaussee and Young. Chaussee saw the checkers first as the race was halted at the halfway point, using the same format as the 125 class. Travis Smith ied the field out of turn one on the restart, with Weigand pushing him back to second place within a iap. Weigand would iead every iap to take the victory after fending of the challenges of both O'Connor and Young along the way. "I've been training pretty hard lately, trying to get ready for the upcoming supercross season," said the TRE/American Honda/Pro Circuit/ZLT-sponsored Weigand after his win. "I tried to stay calm and smooth and tried not to get too tired. I could hear a four-stroke behind me, I didn't know if it was Chaussee or Young. The track was fun. The layout was better than it usually is." Young collected the second-place payback, over O'Connor, Chaussee and Raymond Smith. Results (Hooj. WMN: I. Sherri Cruse (Yam): 2. Jaime Burgess (Y.Ilm); 3. Hayden's 16th Straight By KERR I GIWM GREENVILLE, KY, NOV. 10 Professional road racer Tommy Hayden scored his 16th straight victory by winning the large, 27-rider Mad Dog class and the Western Kentucky Dirt Track Series Open Pro class. In the Open Pro class, Hayden held off the hard-charging Patrick Behile, who came through the field to finish a very close second. The Open Pro class has a guaranteed $500 bonus to the Indoor Series points champion. The Mad Dog class had men and women comp~ting from Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee and Michjgan. Held 'on a small indoor track, it provided lots of excitement, with four heats and two main events, and with only 10 riders going on to each main. In the A main, Hayden won going wire to wire, with Tim Humphries finishing a strong second. The real battle was for third, between Roger Lee Hayden, Nick Daniels and Nicky Hayden, who battled back and forth throughout the main. Nicky and Roger Lee, both American Honda factory road racers, had just returned to motorcycle racing after having wrist surgeries. In the Mad Dog B main, Chris Fristoe took off and ieft the field behind and won easily. Kris Williamson and Jeremy Kamuf battled nose to tail for second, but Kamuf just could not get enough momentum through the turns to overtake Williamson. e n e _ s By STEVE AND PEGGY CORLEE In the 65cc class, some cousins of the Hayden brothers, Frankie Lee Gilllm and Hayden Gillim, had an action-packed battle after coming off the line in fifth and sixth, respectively. They made their way through the pack to get to the front, and on the last lap in turn three, Hayden Gill!m came in too hot and clipped Frankie Gillim's rear tire, letting Jake Lewis finish a distant second. (in this case, Chaussee) having to go to the Mulenburgh County Expo Center Millsaps Zaps the Monster TALLASSEE, AL, NOV. 11 Suzuki's Davi Millsaps, fresh from a fall tour that saw him win nearly every major minibike race in the country, made the trip north to Monster Mountain this month and continued his winning ways in grand style. Millsaps, along with fellow Floridian Bryan Johnson, put on a dazzling display, dominating every race they entered, and each was a double winner on the day. Millsaps rode his works RM85 to wins in both the Supermini and Schoolboy class. winning every moto by a very large margin; Johnson won both the Unlimited Amateur and the 125cc B classes. When the gate fell for the first combined Pro moto, Alabama's Darryl Heisler put his YZ250 ahead of CRF-mounted James Morrison and Jerry Burton, also aboard a YZ. Heisler got a little breathing room on lap one as Morrison and Burton engaged in a terrific battle for second. Trailing the lead group was YZ rider Davy Duprel and the lone 125cc entry of Honda's Marc Rudolf, who were engaged in a bar-to-bar confrontation. Heisler continued to enjoy a small lead ahead of the MorrisonBurton battle until Morrison went down. Burton immediately began to press toward Heisler, while Duprel and Rudolf fought on behind and Morrison circulated, trying to recover. On the white-flag lap, Burton caught Heisler and moved into the lead briefiy. Heisler did not roll over, however, and quickly repassed for the lead, holding on to take the win. In the battle for third, Rudolf made a variant attempt to pass at the finish, but hjs 125 was no match for Dupre!'s YZ up the steep finish-line hill and Rudolf had to settle for fourth. The moto ended with Heisler up front, followed by Burton, Duprel, Rudolf and Morrison. Burton grabbed the moto-two holeshot, ahead of Heisler, Duprel and Morrison. ·Rudolf took a soil sample early on the first lap. Burton immediately came under fire from Heisler, and the pair began a knock-down, drag-out battle. Following the skirmish out front, Duprel and Morrison had their own battle, while Rudolf played catch-up in fifth. Heisler finally made his move on the white-flag lap, passing Morrison for fourth. Heisler took the win and the overall, followed by Burton, Duprel, Rudolf and Morrison. Heisler returned later to top the Over 35 class as well. Action in the small-bike classes was intense. Some of the larger classes of the day were the 60cc and 80cc classes, and no one rider was able to take a double-class win. The 50cc (7-9) win went to KTM rider Cassidy Shives, while the 50cc Shaft win went to Patrick Lumpkin. The 65cc (10-11) class belonged to twins Jonathan and Justin Woodfin, who finished one-two, and another pair of brothers dominated the 85cc classes, with Ken~all Mason topping the 85cc (7 -11) group and Blaine Mason acing the 85cc (12-13) group. The Women's division win went to KX-mounted Kimberly Matthews. Chase Borders, son of Pro Action rep Johnny Borders, topped the Senior Minis, while YZmounted Dylan Daniei took the Youth 65-85 win. back of the line. The former leader is given a cash incentive to pass as many riders as possible during the second half of the race. Weigand, who crashed his way to the back of the pack during the first half, nailed the second-half holeshot ahead of Shimp, Young and Reif. Within a lap, Young had the lead, with Shimp in second place. Reif was up to third and was handed second place when Shimp pulled off with problems. Reif closed in on PfW SHAFT BEG: 1.
