CMC Northwest Winter Arenacross Series Round 2: Forster Livestock Pavilion although Vielle got the best of the brief confrontation, as Vielle held a commanding lead while Leach picked himself up off the turf. Graves, riding his newly acquired Suzuki, followed Vielle for much of the race before executing a perfect brake-check on Vielle to steal the lead. Graves went on to beat Vielle for the Pro-class win, with Sannan , Morgan, Jon Kauffman, Eric Rogers and Jensen trailing. Kauffman had the fastest throttle in moto two, as the Honda rider darted out in front of the pack at the unleashing. Although Kauffman's lead was a brief one Leach took command a few tums later - Kauffman did ride a stellar moto and finished second to Leach at moto's end to net the overall Intermediate-class win. The battle behind the lead duo was the one for the overall Pro-class win, as Graves and Vielle went head to head; the contest went in Graves' favor. Diminutive speedster Gared Steinke also joined the ranks of the select few double-class winners on the night. Steinke stomped the competition for the 60cc Open al)d Senior (9-11) wins. Kawasaki rider Steele Angle-Davidson trailed Steinke overall in the 60cc Open class via 2-4 placings, followed by Travis McClinton (5-3). In the Senior class, Tyler McClinton trailed Steinke in moto two to finish second overall, ahead of his brother Travis. Angle-Davidson topped the combined Junior (6-8) class, beating Justin Conn and Dakota Smith. On Saturday, Kadell and his potent Honda carted off the evening's top money, although Kadell had a bit of luck on his side. KadeJi trailed Leach and Vielle in the first 250cc Pro moto, but - much like it's gone for Leach since making the transition to indoor racing, failing to win both motos Kadell got the nod in moto two to snag his first of two overall wins, via 3- 1 performances. Vielle's consistent 2-2 earned him second overall, followed by Leach (1-3). In the adjoined Intermediate class, Kauffman won overall, ahead of Sannan and Jensen. Robbins had dominated the 250cc Junior class for much of the outdoor season, but since then it's been Ken Romero's and Jason Smith's turns to shine. Smith was the dominant force on Saturday, leading every lap of both motos to take the overall win with a I-I tally, ahead of Suzuki rider Jake Sannan, who traded runner-up STORV AND PHOTOS BV CLAV liGHT SALEM, OR, NOV. 9·1 0 easoned Professional riders Tony Graves and Keith Kadell knocked off the competition in the Pro classes at the arenacross doubleheader inside the Forster Livestock Pavilion, site of round two of the CMC Northwest Winter Arenacross Series. Graves was a double-class winner on Friday night, with wins in the 250cc and Over 30 Pro classes, while Kadell performed a similar feat with his Saturday 125cc and 250cc Pro-class victories. Joining Graves as a dominant force on Friday night were 50cc (7-8) and 50cc Open winner Brad Frace and also Honda-mounted Ryan Huege, who didn't compete at the series' opener; Huege had tough competition from class newcomer Pete Sannan in the 125cc and Before The Hill classes, but the 15-year-old Huege came out on top. Suzuki-mounted Washington Pro J.R. Vielle grabbed the lead at the start of the first Before The Hill Intermediate/Junior moto, but VieJle had pressure from Huege right from the start. Huege challenged Vielle for several laps before Huege made a pass stick. Huege held the point position to the finish, followed by Vielle, Ben Morgan, Sannan and Corey Johnson. Huege darted to the front of the field in moto two and remained there to the wave of Roby Leach's checkered flag, finalizing Huege's I-I sweep. Vielle rallied through the field after a poor start but couldn't get around Morgan, the second-place overall finisher via 3-2 placings. Vielle (2-3), Sannan (4-4) and Johnson (5-5) followed. In the adjoined Junior portion, Honda rider Mitchell Robbins aced both motos to lead Jeremy Mickelson (2-2) and Nick Randklev (3-3). Huege wasn't finished there, though, as several motos later he decimated the competition in the first 125cc Intermediate moto, where he finished ahead of Sannan, Justin Jensen and Aaron Tunnell. Sannan nabbed the lead in moto two, but the 14-year-old KTM rider - who was so impressive in his Intermediate-class debut at the series opener - would later fall. This allowed Huege to take the lead - one which he'd use to collect his second of two overall wins on the night. Sannan remounted to finish second, ahead of Tunnell. Vielle and Yamaha-mounted Ryan Leach headed the field of 250cc Pro/Intermediate riders in moto one, 32 DECEMBER 12, 2001 • cue • e n e _ s (Left) Tony Graves topped the 250cc and Over 30 Pro classes on Friday night at the Forster Livestock Pavilion.
