In the end, Howell crossed the line first. but Snedden was first in his B class, and Thomas Terry was first in the C class. The Old-Timers race had seven riders. Mark Biscardi was first in this one, working his way around the track in front of "Boo Boo" Bob Scally, who tried hard to catch him. Biscardi returned later in the evening in the Vintage event. Biscardi and Rod Rodriguez are in heavy contention for the number-two position in this class in District 36. Despite being hit from behind lap aftet(ap, Biscardi exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and skill both on and off the track, maintaining his position on the track and maintaining his cool off the track. The Open A main event had eight rider, and it finished with Mark Corsetti in first, followed by Jeremy Hannah and Nick Moore. This would prove wise, 8S midmota troubles led to a DNF for Herring, which honded another comfortable victory to Mezera. The second-mota victory rounded out the sweep for Mezera at the top of the standings. Yamaha-mounted Joe Pomeroy's consistent 4-4 scores netted him second on the day, and Yamaha-mounted Nick Cassinelli c1aim~d third with a 3-5 tally. Herring's 2-DNF placed him back in 10th overall. In small-bore action, the BOcc Beginner class featured no less than 25 racers on the gate. The win was claimed quite handily, though, by Kawasaki pilot Dustin Peterson. Though he scored neither holeshot, Peterson instead used decent starts to make a methodical climb to the top of each mota. Other frontrunners included Yamaha rider Jeff Henson, Honda-mount~d Aaron Rindy, and Kawasaki jockey Matt Lupoid. Peterson passed all thre~ on his way to the front in the first moto, after gating in fourth. The second mota featured another win for Peterson, but this time he was followed closely by Lupoid, who got the holeshot in both motos but finished nnidpack in the first round after some mishaps. The standings, of course, had Peterson on top with his perfect moto tally, followed in second by Henson, who used steady 3-4 scores to secure his spot. Rindy (2-6) was third. Kawasaki jockey Nikki Cleaves (5-5) took fourth, and lupoid (12-2) ended the day in fifth. Other races of note included the secondmoto battle between J.L Bitz and Tyler York for the BOcc Intennediate victory, with Bitz on top in the end. York gajned some redemption in the 60cc (10 and over) division, however, scoring a double-mota victory on the day. That win included a come-from-behind charge in the second moto after an early crash that had seemingly left him out of contention. The Pro classes featured battles between Yamaha riders Justin Mastalka and Fernley local Jesse Duncan. The two swapped leads wit.~ regularity, but in the end it was Mastalka who topped both the 125cc and 250cc Pro divisions on the day. T........,.. Fernley International Raceway Mezera Hits the Mark By ROBERT BEAUPR~ FERNLEY, NV, OCT. 2B In October, the temptation is great to flee the gray skies and falling temperatures outside and park the bike for the winter, but a sizable number of northern Nevada rnotocrossers decided to gather once more for the ninth round of the MXWest Nevada State Motocross Championship Series. Among those finding the effort worthwhile was Reno's Justin Mezera, who piloted his Honda to the 250cc Junior victory. Mezera claimed a double-mota sweep, despite the challenges of 13 other competitors. The first mota featured a Mezera holeshot and runaway victory, but the second round was made more interesting by Yamaha rider Wes Herring, who came from behind for second place in the first mota. Although Mezera again claimed the lead at the second start, Herring soon found his way to Mezera's rear fender and began applying the pressure.
